Title: Wages
Post by: CBCS on October 11, 2009, 04:00:51 pm
When employing what hourly rate do you pay? Any bonuses?

Or do you pay a percentage of the work done?

If sub-contracting, how does that work?

i dont no whats its like down ur way.iam moveing to bridlinton in 2 weeks so i will like to no aswell.  up here if ur subing its 60 to me 40 percent to u. as for wage £6 an hour to someone training £10 to some one who is well expercrs hope that helps a bit

You will get what you pay for. Dont expect a 1st class  service if you pay peanuts.

I would also not take on  anyone who has been a window cleaner before, they have bad habits. If you take on someone who is new you can get them to do it the way you want.
As for payment I would give them minimum wage + a bonus for doing a full week without any problems

The reason why I ask is I'm in a position where its takes two of us 8 weeks to get around my 4 weekly round.

This is not good, I'm not earning what I should be am I?

What would you do?

I've had this round 12 years now, its a great round, loyal customers, known by many, great payers. I just need to know where to go from here?

If you let it go at 8 weeks for too long you will get some funny looks when you manage to get it back down to 4 weeks again. The custy will get used tot he schedule and not be happy paying out twice as often as they were.

Ducky who is paying £10 an hour up that way? Prices half them charge their lucky to turnover £10 per hour.

I pay my son a guaranteed 30 hours per week at minimum wage plus a 4 weekly bonus equivalent to a weeks wage if all work is done in the 4 week clean period, which it always is. Any days the weather is extreme its a case of he is getting paid so he drops leaflets.

When I eventually take on staff, I would pay them £280 per week and if they hit their quota for that week they will receive a further £70.
If they gain a customer they will get 100% of the price of the first clean, like a bonus and an incentive.

Gis a job dave :)

Do you not incentivise them or do you find they work well anyway??

If they arent pulling there weight what would you do ?
Title: Re: Wages
Post by: Moderator David@stives on October 12, 2009, 01:03:59 pm
the incentive is keep doing a good job or your sacked, simple as that.

I dont play games, I am honest and fair and expect the same back in return.
Title: Re: Wages
Post by: Sean Dyer on October 12, 2009, 02:06:17 pm
Thats fair enough mate

You just read so much about incentivize etc on here, i pay a day rate at minute and dont think he would work any faster just because he can earn a bit more, i suppose its down to the individual i reckon incentivizing and percentages are good for subbying, or ambitious people, but there the ones that will leave and set up anyway 99% of time

Most jobs pay x amount week in and out and if you want more you do over time

Good to see that someone has good staff with normal wage

thats a lot easier said than done these days dave with the employment law as it is ,may be you have been lucky but be careful how you go about getting rid of staff as if one takes you to a tribunal it can be very expensive.
believe me the employment law is a complete joke and even with good reason to get rid of somebody its not that easy.

Been thinking about setting up my own window cleaning business as i already do patio cleaning (part time) but not sure if it’s too risky
I would like to have new van with all new equipment, good advertising. I can afford all this but don’t know what’s stopping me. Think i need someone to push me to start that. I think about this almost everyday when i see how much money my boss is taking (£300-£400) per day on domestic work and much more on commercial

Not sure how long it will take me to make some money . will need 100s of customers to make a living
What is your experience when starting window cleaning?

and???????

my new contract i having done prevents my emploees from starting up on there own amongst other things.

but to many employees seek employment when there struggling and a employee gives them a chance they learn every thing from there employer and then do one with out any considerations for the chance they were given by there boss.

let me tell you i have to take £240 a day before i make a profit...........so dont just look at what your cleaning and think WOW(i want some of that)

just hard trying to do everything

Going to jump in on this one. I will work with you on making the Currys contract a success. Do not let this opportunity pass you by. I will provide you with all equipment, what you want to earn and we can make it a success for both of us.

This is what I do, day in, day out. I will get you up to speed, best equipment. We need to chat!!

Ronnie

Sorry if I have jumped in here but the reality of what has been posted is that Ducky has an opportunity to turn this to his advantage, he has proven that he is honest and can be trusted and I want to work with individuals like him.

I don't know if he can work this alone, whether he has the equipment or the ability. If he wants to work it on his own I am happy to offer support and advice.

If he is looking to share the work then I believe that with three years refurbishment cleaning experience, at the highest level, offering multiple services then he will have the confidence of someone who knows what they are talking about, to provide risk/method statements, working procedures, health and safety awareness, professional kit that is up to the task and someone alongside him that will work harder at making this a success than he is used to.

I clean all of my works and I do what it takes to get the job done. I see you as a mate Ronnie and do not want to upset anyone but I have a vast amount of experience doing refurb cleaning and have all of the set up in place.

Rob ;D
