A neighbour's just turned up moaning that a local car valet has just charged his mate £80 to clean the interior of his car. I asked how long it took and he said a good few hours....... I think I upset him when I said that his mate got a good deal, it's as if some people think we're in the cleaning industry for the good of our health! ::)

Hi Colin
I agree. There is a stigma attached to cleaners that they are the lowest of the low! £80ish is what Id be charging as well if I was in the car valeting game. I wa looking to go in to it but was put off by the awkwardness of the cleaning. I think Im in the best two cleaning areas of carpet cleaning and pressure washing.

I had a spare hour this afternoon and put some leaflets out I came across an couple in thier 50s on thier knees scrapping out the weeds from thier driveway.
I went across and gave them a leaflet ( which has powerwashing on 1 side) I told them they were wasting thier time without putting some weedkiller down first as the weeds would be back in a couple of weeks.
I asked them it they'd like a quote on having it cleaned, they said they had just had one! but no way would they pay £150 to get it cleaned,
she then stood up and said "its only a days work, I'll pay £50..... no more" :o :o
they had been scrapping the weeds out on thier knees since 9am.

£50 for the day ::)
Thats about the national minimum hourly rate.
Hope they got sore knees

Joe,
I like that ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

this couple had a huge house and a flash car but would rather spend a day on their knees than pay to get it done ::) ::)
some people know the price of everything but the value of nothing.

I did some work for a guy recently - not particularly rich, just a nice house and car.
He had a gardener mowing his lawn, he must have seen me looking and said " I'm not being flash, it's just that the gardener charges me £ 8.00 an hour to mow the lawn and I won't work for £ 8.00 an hour "
I think he has the right attitude - wonder if I can get my other half to agree with that ! ;D

£8!! I pay £12 for mine and I pay £35 to have my ironing done which would take me 3hrs to do my self
I earn £60-£80 an hour ( ok this is'nt all profit) I don't mind paying for anything if it makes my life easier
-
I'm having my garden "redefined" at the moment - thats a nice word for saying it was a mess.
Being charged £15 per hour and I thinkits worth every penny.
Dont mind doing the carpet cleaning but I aint breaking my back gradening.
-
i seen an ad in co op the other day, cleaner for 7.50 an hour, id rather let them do my housework and and get the missus out window cleanign with me - still make more money !!!
-
We had a cleaner many years ago... She was my wife's friend and my wife would tidy up prior to the cleaner's arrival ???

I wouldn't work for that either, but if that guy is so nice, why dont he pay him more? say hey mate you doing a good job of my garden i pay you 10 instead of 8 you asked for. but he wont do that, and his saying that now but i can tell you, that you will have to ring up few people before you get a gardener for 8 an hour. so i very much doubt that he woul pay any mre than that if he got some one for that price at first place. what people say and think/do varies.

That's why i have stone floor restoration on my business cards & leaflets...If people ring me and say they want there floor cleaned, i say have you not got a mop and bucket, then there is silence on the phone..then i say if you want me to restore your floor back to how it should look then i can do that.....They soon understand ;D

I didn't say he was nice, I was simply pointing out that he is utilising his own time - I have just spent 2 hours cutting my grass and I can think of better things to do with my time. As for paying him more, if thats what the guy charges and he's happy with that then fine, he might be retired and happy to earn some pin money. Why should he pay him more ? When I quote someone a price I don't assume that I'm going to get more than that just because the client is happy.

Sorry i was'n having a go or anything, just meant that i find it hard to belive that the guy was so lucky he got a gardener for 8ph without shopping around thats all, and if he has he must be lucky. and dnt get me wron there are ppl out there who will do it at that price. my mate when was studying used to do ppls gardens + professional design for 7ph cos she needed money, and i can tell you now she did a better job then some ppl would do for 20ph,but thats one off and now she charges 17.50 min. so like you said if the guy is happy to do it for that, then let him get on with it :)

No need to apologise dash, I know you weren't having a go.
While I was cutting the grass today I was thinking, I could pay someone about £ 20 to do this for me and I could be doing something more productive - but in hindsight I would probably be sitting on my backside reading the paper ;D
