Title: w.f.p trolley using d.i vessal
Post by: GB Window Cleaning on October 07, 2009, 03:01:06 pm
just got a w.f.p trolley system using d.i vessal only for purifaction! tap water tested around 300 ppm on my tds meter... so im thinking it could be expensive using only d.i?

i only do 1st floor with w.f.p and use trad on ground floor to cut down on resin use!

today i tested the rain water collected in water butts and its 40 ppm  :o....
so to my next question....

can i use rain water to increase the life span of my resin? and will i need to filter the bits/muck out of the rain water before i d.i filter it?

many thanks in advance
george.

Sounds like you will be buying at least 2 bags of resin a month if thats what the TDS is reading at, crazy money that will be a month, an expense you could do without im sure.  At £60 a pop plus vat thats rough.

out of curiousity, how do you get it from the butt to the Di vessel? have you got a water butt pump? or are you uing gravity?

I have a water butt on my house but i may invest in some more as im on a water meter

a strainer of some kind would be wise, old pair of tights would work as a filter to stop 'bits' from going through the resin.

why don't you use an ro would save you time and hassel with 300ppm you will be forever checking tds and using a load of resin

Hi Ive been using a DI trolley for the past 2 months using only rainwater and I think it's really good, i collect the rain in 2 ibc tanks so I can collect 2000litres, but as i've only been going 2 months I'm a bit concerned about how long 2000 litres will last during a whole summer

Great to hear from you richard hydro!

                                                            sorrybut what are ibc tanks?
Im using water "butts" fed off the down-pipes from the my house gutter and garage!

How do you drain the rain water into these ibc tanks off your?

Many thanks, and really nice to hear from a fellow "w.f.p rainy" there we go ive just "coined a phrase"... No pub intedded!

George.

This is a ibc tank  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PLASTIC-IBC-CONTAINER_W0QQitemZ170391274716QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Storage?hash=item27ac1c84dc&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
The best ones are black (but more costly)
to collect the rainwater I just put a rainwater diverter (available from all good DIY stores) into the down pipe of my guttering and drill a hole into the ibc and connect up

thanks richard,

                         those look like good tanks!

your method of collecting sounds ellaborate!
but i like it!

do you pre D.I vessal filter or just straight through D.I vessal? and bum... Pure .000 ppm water?!?!?

thanks again.

I just put the rainwater into a DI Trolley same as this http://www.polarbrite.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_20_24&products_id=61

Just to add I've put filter wool (from aquatic stores) inside and at tho top of the down pipe to catch all the crud.
I might invest in a cheap RO unit in the spring just in case!!! (I do live in the driest part of the UK)
