Title: VAN INSURANCE FOR A 20 YEAR OLD ?
Post by: Archer on October 05, 2009, 10:55:06 pm

I am looking to buy another van for my son, but he's only 20 so appreciate insurance will be high.

Spoke to A Plan today who said over £1,100, and thats obviously without any WFP System , as you have to be over 25

All feedback would be appreciated, as i really need to be buying a van soon.

Thank you.

I am insured with A Plan but i telephoned them today & they said my insurers will not insure anyone under 25 with a WFP system inside the van (modified)

Im 18 & started window cleaning six months ago and i too out a commericial vehicle insurance policy no trouble. I was 17 when i took it out. I went to a local broker that deals with commercial.

It wasn't cheap but was cheaper than when i had a car.

Try Direct Choice Van Insurance. Maybe not having a WFP system bolted into the van if it's a matter of the van being modified, ie use 25ltr barrels etc or a backpack etc, or a car with a trailer as someone else said.

cheapest option, give him a bike with a backpack on it and an engine, and that way you wont have to get another van.

I NEVER scrimp & scrape , or buy crappy stuff, or be as tight as a ducks arse when it comes to buying work equipment  :-X

However, insurance is a different matter, especially as SOME of us have insurance and abide with H&S legislation.

Just managed to pick up a transit for £12,500, and am now looking for another van, possibly 2 more ,

WHY NOT seeing as were working 7 days aweek & still 2 weeks behind

In your post you are complaining about having to spend £1100 pounds for insurance, then you say you dont cut corners when it comes to legislation and are thinking of buying 3 brand new vans, its sounds like a pipe dream to me ;D :o :P

you flush get  new (VANS)
had the same problem last week mate had a twenty four year old employee my insurance is £460 with three named drivers went to add him on and it jumped to £1495 they are having a laugh i said he will be twenty five just past christmas reply was phone back then my reply was go f your self .....as for the trailer route your son will prob need to sit a test now for towing ...due to his age  to keep him right
i tried for a any driver policy and they dont do them now they all need to be named drivers and basicly over 25 with a year our two under there belt
but lets be reilistic here for me to put that 24 year old on insurance for a year it would work out at about 200 a month thats a lot of cleaning just to get a squad on the road ,and as for the young guys that want to work its a slap in the face ....apprentice now there is a blast fom the past .....its a shame for the young guns out there that are willing to work and they are held back from the off .i will only be taking guys on over twenty five from now on
wonder if i look up in the word apprentice on google it will say apprentice--------word once used in the eightys for a young guy keen and willing to work under a craftsman to learn and then apply his trade --------but now replaced with western european imigrants----that dont comply to anything insurance whats that ..
you could always sell footy programs on ebay i supose ;)

it makes a massive difference if you WFP has this is a modifiction now i was insured fr two years told them what i did but never about the mod they never asked.

then i heard of how some one had a accident didnt tell the insurer has i your responsibity ans theyended u fooked has insurance was void and there was third party.

I would allmake sure that your insurance covers you if you do a search on say oney supper market and include mod you will find hardly any that will covr you, but many will sell a policy with out all the info not caring about you.

Yes i agree, been with them myself for 4 years, they are brokers and come up trumps each year!! currently insured through equity red star, im 29 with a 2.5tdi transporter all the gear and it comes in below 500 which i think is good for my age and you get breakdown and windscreen cover.

was thinking about this again and with the new goverment  scheme where they pay you £1000 pound for employing some one that has been unemployed for more than six months this could be your answer mate
