Title: Come on, lets get the right gloves this year .PLEASE!
Post by: geefree on October 05, 2009, 09:04:59 am
Hi,

Every winter we have a debate about the right gloves,

i tried 5 or 6 different types last year, most were recommended on this site!..thanks for the input but none were really suitable.

Do we have any guys on here who have actually bought a good pair of gloves, that keep the hands warm, and the water out, and last longer than one week.?

Thanks

Gary.

Sealskins winter gloves. They are called just that. They have got grippy fingers and palms, no small studs. Those are fantastic. Make sure you get the winter gloves, the other ones do not last long for the work we do.

Just tried a pair of these on, I am wfp, and they seem a bit too bulky for when it comes to things like turnin tap on,  adjusting gooseneck etc.

are you wfp tim?

I find the best gloves are the cheap sets you get that are usually displayed on the counters are builders merchants. They are interwoven with some sort of rubber and generally retail about £1.00 a pair. Buy 5 pairs and dry one lot out when theyre wet and put on a dry pair to replace them.

They aren't too thick or bulky to hamper your work, keep your hands dry and warm. Buy one pair if you're afraid of wasting money, youve only wasted a quid then.

Screw sealskin, waste of money.

Yes I am, they feel a bit bulky to start with, but you get used to it. Try it on a cold day, hands are nice and warm, and dry. Not too clumsy. :)

i never wore gloves till going wfp tried a few different types but never liked working with gloves on so now i just put up with the cold, once the first hour is up your hands get warm anyway and with wfp it is very rare you can work much below freezing as the water freezes  where as when i used to work of ladders i often worked at -5 on some early mornings.

showa winter gloves for the cold , when it's cold and wet use thin gloves as a liner and some chemical handling gloves over them. there waterproof and hardwearing. £10 for all 3 pairs , so get 2 sets interchange them and they'll last for ages.

Blue car-wash gloves from Halfords £2.99 last about 2 - 3 weeks. I use these throughout the year, when it goes cold I put some thermal wollen gloves inside.

I found all the other thermal gloves fell apart far too soon considering how costly they were.

I have used these for years.
www.seton.co.uk/setoneurope/catalog/0/20/100007-1%20200112-2%20310349-3.html

I buy 10 pairs at a time and the pack will last for ages. I always have a few pairs on the go at any one time, I am then sure of having dry ones every day.
I have a pair of cushioned soled walking socks, very warm and comfy, but would I wear them every day of the winter? Yuk! It's the same with gloves. I like to be able to wash and change them frequently.

Heavy duty rubber gloves, black ones. With a pair of glove liners underneath when it`s really cold.

Go to the sealskins website, you can print out a template that you fold round your hand, that will tell you the size.

Mot scuba gloves work on the principle that they trap a very small layer of water between the skin and glove and this stays warm.

But with that said..you can get dry gloves but this is a different plate of chips ...

Cheers
Dave.
