Title: Website hits
Post by: chris@c.m.s on October 01, 2009, 04:10:21 pm
I got my website up and running about 4 months ago and I use a website tracker so I know how many hits it gets. On average I'm getting about 2-3 a week which I think is pretty poor, I may have to look into some professional help with optimising it, or is it about average, if not what is average?

What have you done to promote the site:-

1. free dirrectlry listings
2. van signage
3. do you have it on your flyers
4. back of tshirts and uniforms
5. posters
6. newspaper adverts

There is a range of things you can do, yes make sure if someone searches your area and window cleaning your site is optimised for that and get a high listing.

Where is it coming on on-line searches.

remember you want people in your area to look at it, potential customers, not people 500 miles from you. So as long as your site is ranking OK, and you are promoting it locally it should start working for you.

I have some of that covered thanks, I seem to come up on yahoo and google when a search is made in an area I cover, some areas are first page some are 3 pages in. The van is going to be sign written next week and I'm hoping that will make a difference, I have put flyers out with the addy on and didnt notice any new hits, I was hope for much more from that  ::).

Thanks Chris I may take you up on that at some point.

A guy gave a a business card a few months back with that design, then noticed it on the web when I was looking at designs for inspiration. It actually looks pretty good.

I hate George Formby though, just because I seem to always get serenaded by alcoholics and neds with that song as well as the 'you missed a bit' before you have actually finished the window, tw@ts cant even get the joke right, but of course I tell them you have to wait until I finish then say it for it to be even possible never mind funny.

Well youll get some today because of this page.

But apart from having your address spread all over everything CMS you NEED!!! to get those organic links working. Its no good being on page 4 of 'window cleaner littlehampton'

Get your meta tags optimised and get the front landing page optimised so google reads those relevant terms. THINK!! of what potential custards might put as a search term into google if you are to become obvious to them. Use allsorts of variations.

window cleaner littlehampton
littlehampton window cleaner
window cleaning littlehampton
littlehampton window cleaning
gutter cleaner littlehampton
littlehampton gutter cleaner
gutter cleaning littlehampton
littlehampton gutter cleaning

then where else do you want to get work and do the same but change the place name.

then the same for upvc

and then for your psotcode

and then for driveway cleaning if you do that.

Think outside the box

this is my webpage

http://www.oakleywindowcleaning.co.uk/

check out the meta tags on that.

I wouldn't put your bank details on there mate. Just make them available on request.

Set an account with Google and then you can add yourself to Google maps - all details about your company etc they normally are first page top - so you will be seen straight away. Another thing is google adwords but don't be tempted to do anything other than area ones e.g window cleaner littlehampton that way you will only get people who have actually typed in littlehampton. Add you sight to every directory (for free) that you can. Good Luck - buy the way I like the site.

That's what I used to think. And so did Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear. He was so sure he decided to put his details in a national newspaper and promptly had his account accessed.

I got 113960 hits on www.avondhucleaning.com last month,.. just that one domain, not including the forum or any other sites. :)

Hits don't mean much though,.. unique visitors is what you need,.. I only got about 350 unique visitors.

What brings them to your site then Nat?

That HAS to be something other than cleaning. Has to be.

Your Google PageRank is still 0  ???

I didnt think there were that many people in Ireland  ;)

Good god I'd need a secretary if I had that many visitors, when I do get a unique visitor they usually end up calling me.

Thats just "hits",.. pretty meaningless in the real world unfortunately,.. it translates to an average of about 400 -500 unique visitors per month for me.

In reality, very few.
You get price shoppers, ppl outside your area,.. telesales ppl googleing for numbers to call,. endless link exchange requests,..
I maybe get 1 or 2 jobs a week out of it, and many of those are one-off's like gutter cleaning or pressure washing.
Still the few real & regular jobs I do get add up quickly and the site pays for itself 20X over during the year.

Although I get less unique visitors than you - I find the same as you - and your right the sites pay for themselves.  better to have a site than not eh!
