Title: things you couldn't cleanwithout
Post by: Adam P on September 26, 2009, 04:55:54 pm
just thought would be a good idea to have a thread for people to post items that they use when cleaning that since finding couldn't clean without? e.g. in past i'd use a scourer to get bad limescale off around taps and it could take a while, eventually someone suggested toothbrush and it helped so much that it's something i would never go into a persons house without.

sure there must be hundreds of great little inexpensive tools/tips people use so lets hear them :)

A box of old yoghurt pots and coffee jar lids com in handy for all sorts from sticking under the feet of antique furniture to taping over sprinklers.
A water freezer , because most customers idea of a " serviceable out door mains water supply " is one that turns in alright but will not then turn off.
Similarly a plug in three light mains /earth tester.
A set of dental probes.
A long flexible grab it device.
For some EOT  , especially in some areas and also in cases where there is a dispute, or a "former" squat and especially places used as a home from home by " ladies of negotiable morals"----my best mate------ a feisty looking Staffy cross.  ( also useful in the vicinity of four legged rats)
The list is endless really.
On Pet cleaning a little uv torch and a red photo filter  can often find places , where the owners swear blind the animal never goes.
I dont have the nerve to emulate a mate of mine, since retired, who had a call out plumbing firm and carried a specially printed card, which in half a dozen of the more exotic foreign languages, pointed out that customers, who despite agreeing before the work  no found they were were unable to pay, or understand ; could apply for a credit account with an associate firm , sadly at a high rate of interest, plus a £20 service charge, and featuring a personal collection( during opening hours)

We use and sell via my other business, a giant type tooth brush that! this is called the SONICSCRUBBER we have ones for vehicles one for kitchens and one for bathrooms they sell well.

ideal for taps toilets hinges, grout what ever you want to use them on, cuts cleaning time.

also we use quixx scratch repair (for cars) when we do repair work

Well that shows you clearly recognise and appreciate your staff. When cleaning jobs are 10 a penny it never ceases to amaze me how and why people treat their cleaning staff like they do and why they expect so much more for the money that we can pay them.

We have got over 40% of our team been withus over 5 years.

Loyal hard working and have earned us decent money over the years, got to look after them

anyway it costs so much to recruit and train new staff plus clients too like the same people

but most of all the better your reputation for being a decent employer the better standard of staff you attract and the client hears that you are good to work for

Nobody wants to hire a business that treat their staff badly

but building a good team doesn't come easy or cheap i dread to think what the unsuitable staff cost me in the early days not just in money either

Oh i see, i thought it was the forum police by another name.

Post a message on a forum (any forum), expect replies (some of which you dont like) and expect the subject to get diverted. Its the name of the game.

When someone (particularly someone with no authortity) comes along banging the table, people back off and leave. Its an age-old story which i have seen again and again.

And then comes the obligatory message from someone asking where everyone is and why people aren't posting any more  :-\

i'm shocked you're taking this so seriously   ;D

all the guy asked was if a thread could be kept on topic, surely that's an understandable request? i have no problem if you stop posting in this thread if it's off topic as off topic is useless to me and anyone who comes into this thread looking for tips/tricks of the trade.

sorry if this sounds insulting but you're coming across as rather immature, someone asks for it to be kept on topic and you say they are "banging the table"?

if anyones leaves this thread because they dont like that they are asked to be kept on topic then there is no loss as the only thing not being added is off topic replies :) like this one

Green, you don't know me, so i don't expect (and i care even less) that you will believe me when i say i am far too old to be immature.

Time and again on forums, i have read messages from people who do -as i said- 'bang the table'- the very second that people start getting talkative.

Yes, you are right, i AM taking this seriously, on the basis that you as the original poster took the time and the effort to ask your question, and that I and others took the time and the effort to reply. How easy would it have been to have just ignored you?

I treat all messages as 'serious' that is to say that although the content may possibly be humorous (or not), the fact of the matter is that the message wasn't just written for the laugh.

My point about people not posting was not in relation to you personally and your topics (sorry to dissapoint  ;D ) but made in a 'general' sense, in as much as i've seen this happen before; rather than report to and trust in the moderators, people feel better able to wade in and tell folk to shut the doo-da up, just because they do not like the way a thread has gone. And you call me immature?

I don't know about people 'banging on the table' but Vacman you don't half 'bang on' about nothing!

White paper towels, c fold or centrefeed type, great for mopping up spills or cleaning glass and buffing taps etc, - spit and a bit of bog roll and you can clean anything! lol (yes that is a joke by the way  :))
