I am nearly where I want to be in respect of income (have plenty of space to expand if I wished) but I have certain work that I just hate doing every time I have to do them I just hate the whole day and I am in he process of getting rid of certain jobs...but I also have feelings that getting rid only takes money out of the round....which is akin to stealing from yourself
Do you get feelings of guilt whether they be for getting rid of a prompt paying job or just that dumping people is taking income out of the round?
Cheers
Dave.

Pingu,
I think the only way you'll get rid of that guilt is when your round is absolutely full and you get the prospect of a new job that will earn you more money for the same time................then watch you drop it without a backwards glance ;)
-
Dave,
personally i'm not at that level yet but i understand why you may feel guilty, however you are a business and as such need to run professionally and profitably.
if it helps you could raise the price of those you 'hate' doing so at least there is a better reward for doing it and if they don't want to pay more then its a 'mutual' parting of the ways.
depending on what you have for the future could you not take on a 'lad' - one day a week to do these thus keeping a larger customer base plus income.

i feel no guilt as i work on a "3 strikes and you are out " principle. the friendly folk have nothing to worry about ,its the sour sarcey types who run up the 3 strikes
i was doing 2 takeaways owned by this one guy. i dropped these overnight after he started to get sarcey on me (the 3 strike rule ) and i still see several months down the line nobodys done the windows.
even today ,an old bird said " i didnt see you do the upstairs, did u ?" - i mentally made a note, that was yer 2nd strike lady ;D
-
jonny you,ll do for me your one cool guy do you apply this 3 strike rule to anyone else in your life ? i bet you wear the trousers in your house hye ;D

i had an old bloke the other day muttering something about did i do the front, and they dont look clean and you were only here 2 weeks ago but it was 4 to the day, 3 strikes in one go i was pretty ped at him and was very abrupt... might drop him next time if he says anything again.. only a fiver for crying out loud
-
well every body is allowed an off-day , so only 1 strike per visit . im thinking im going to tape a sign to my bucket,"3 strikes" just to remind me not to forget this golden rule
Mick, i couldnt apply the 3strike rule back at home as it wouldnt be fair.besides whose gonna cook my tea and all the other stuff
-
I know what you mean Pingu. I have one where the backyard is used as the dogs toilet I absolutely hate it. i've refused to do the backs before but they came back and promised to keep it clean. I've left them for over three months hoping they would just go away. They phoned me again last night and guess what? ...... I cleaned their squat again today because I felt guilty letting it go for so long. It's a well priced job too but I just hate it.

i know that jonny we are all big softies when it comes to the wife ;D

I'll drop them like a stone, I'd rather drop the few that are like that instantly and lose the income, one of the reasons I'm self employed is to have a happier working life and more freedom. I'd rather have longer unpaid lunch break by the park.
-
I have a couple roads like that Dave.I either clean them when the weathers bad or i do the job really quick and very hit and miss and they still don't complain!
-
Come on dave, you know the SP, little kull is healthy. Who am I to give you advice? I read YOUR advice for Gods sake.
I need a new hero :o ;D

;D ;D ;D...how's about ftp...he has some cracking days..
-
hate dropping them but sometimes needs to b done
-
i would give them a hefty price rise, if they say yeah you are l;aughing if no then job done :)
-
I would play with words and consider it pruning. I would feel much better telling myself that, unless they were troublesome customers. :)
-
To me its telling them I will not be coming again that would be cherry on the top and seeing there faces and if they ask me why ,its christmass

hi pingu.
sjd09 advice about hefty price rise is good.
unfortunately i wouldn't have guts to do.
What about a comprimise do every other time so if monthly do bi-monthly,
bump up price about 30%
I reckon you'd defeninately keep work and would be there less so hopefully wouldn't get you down.
Just tell custy's; your changing all custy's over to bi-monthly(LIE ;))
thanks lee.

thats a good compromise i suppose, the benefit with these older custys is that some of them might be awkward or out of your way but if they are good custys, good payers, loyal etc, i would try keep them you dont know when the crunch might hit hard again and you regret losing them :( Even if your round goes a day or two over you are still earning the same, and you could make them better jobs by doing as lee says, 2 monthly, big price increase, if you lose em, job done , or keep them and be happy :)

I have kulled a few this year when I switched over to WFP as they are such a pain in the arse and disrupt the flow of my business, my business comes first I'm affraid.
You have to harden up otherwise your business will suffer.
My new customers that I will gain in Essex will have a 3 strike rule and I will mark it down on the work list.
They will also be charged a minimum £10, even if they just want one window cleaned.
No messing about lol
