Hi just about to get stuck into canvassing .i have read all the past posts ....my Q is if an area of say 100 house all seem to have cleanish windows do you still knock on or do you find an area where the windows are generally dirty
thanks in advance for the replys

I dont look and have never looked for windows that are particularly dirty. Just knock whatever theyre like.
The thing about knocking on houses with windows that are dirty is that they might just not want them cleaned, there are plenty of people out there who get by with dirty windows.
In other words, dont assume; just get out there and get knocking.
If you have a leaflet etc with you then it should also have something on it for gutter cleaning, upvc etc and thats another angle you can go at even if they have a window cleaner.

I'd knock, you'd never know if they've tried 'aving a go themselves 'cos they cant' get a cleaner !

i agree with window licker
those that are dirty are usually the ones who dont want a window cleaner

But the lying buggers will still say, " No thank you, we already have a window cleaner". ::)

Dirty windows are often a sign of rented accommodation - beware - likely to disapear without paying at the end of the 6 month let etc.
I've noticed a lot of houses with lovel clean clean downstairs windows where the owner can reach but when you look up the windows are a mess.
The condition of the net curtains and garden are a good indicator of what type of animal you are dealing with.

I always reply,
"really? are they overdue or not coming back, your top frames are a mess!!"
Gets them thinking..
Quite funny when they have just had them cleaned days before..
then pass over a business card, and say " if you want someone that does it properly, please give me a call!"

And don't be downhearted by a long list of no's. It's a numbers game canvassing, I did a long street last week and 2 thirds of the way round I'd got 1 customer, I was just about to give up on the rest of the street when I got a yes, and their mother was round who lived across the road and got her too, they mentioned 2 neighbours who wanted someone and then I also got another 5 or 6 from the last bit of the street ! So keep going when all seems lost...
I also got a street night before last with an absolutely crap cleaner, about 20 people had sacked him off already and lots more sacked him off once I knocked, as they where just waiting for someone better to turn up one day. I got around £160 worth of work from under 2 hours knocking. Turned out the guy had a reputation for being a bit creepy (staring for too long through windows etc.) and always missed loads when cleaning. I even got another 4 customers today while cleaning the street.

Very true, some very dirty ones are like that cos they dont care, some clean ones have been done by the householder who is dying to find a cleaner, or sick of there unreliable one
Knock everything!!
