I'm just starting up a round, but I was wondering how far out you guys travel from home to fill your round ?
I live in a town in the Scottish Borders with a population of about 15000 and the plan is to fill my round in my home town, but within a 30 mile radius there is probably another 50-60'000 population and if I needed to travel for a days work then I would.
-
but being in scotland youd need a licence for each area you work, I travel, 10 miles residential and 15 for commercial
-
All in the Scottish Borders Council area and were the only council who don't have a licence for there window cleaners ???
-
i try to keep all domestic work 3 to 4 miles form home around 10 for commercial
-
It all depends on how many window cleaners are there but I don't think you are going to have to go travelling into different towns. Take your time, try to keep it compact, and do as much canvassing and flyer drops as you can.
Its in your best interest to keep each little round as compact as you can and will benefit from it in the long run. Good luck and I hope everything goes well mate.

i travel upto 15 miles for residential and anything for the right commercial job, priced some last year over 120 miles away
But my residential is pretty compact 3 rounds each being within half a mile to a mile wide....
Im working at present at compacting them even more as i still have gaps but other wcs are about but picking up more at a healthy rate so all is good

The bulk of my work is within a mile of my home. Furthest job is about 3 miles away. Compact rounds make for efficient use of your time. Think compact, when you are starting out you will take anything thats offered but always try to reduce travelling time.
-
I travel about 26 miles to most of my work, but it's all really compact when I get there.
I lived in the area when I started, but have since moved so not much choice.
It's 80 to 90 minutes a day travelling and a pain in the bum collecting in the winter.
I could never find such compact work anywhere else though.
-
20-30 miles MAX. Most work is localish, but if they are willing to pay then I'm willing to travel.
-
my rounds scattered over 3 towns .i like it that way as then its interesting . as long as i can do 10 houses per day thats good enough for me . the farthest town is 30 miles away and sometimes if raining in 1 town its alrite at the other town .1 towns got a whole load of speed cameras and radar guns and i like going there to hear my "road angel " beeping to warn me and i recently got a radar jammer too, soon im hoping to hear this" twang" into action as i roll into town ;D
-
spread yourself around best way i work in a 35 mile radius dont like working where i live although i do around 50 in my home town would rather drive out the area
-
Thanks to all
in an ideal world all the work would be in my home town, but I've had to work in most towns in the Borders over the years just to get a job. If it means making a living then I will travel, we are in business after all ;)
-
Its not like an employed job and having to commute a bit though, if that's what you mean. Do you have an idea of how many window cleaners there is at the moment?
Also never mentioned in my first post there, I go about 3/4 miles from my home.
-
my work all within a 10 mile radius.i sometimes earn more on scattered bigger accounts than on my compact 3 bedders.prob even faster when i go WFP. ;D
-
someone starting up is less likely to get them big jobs and wont really be up to speed at first either to start biting of more than they can chew also larger jobs can be harder to price for a novice and I wouldn't like to see a newbie trying to leap into large commercials too soon because they are likely to end up with egg on there face.
-
most of my work is within 5-10mins drive and very compact. ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)
but about 5days of the mth iam off the lead and then drive a little bit further up to 15/20 miles :P :P :P :P :P :P
-
30km's, I have to admit I would hate a really compact round it would drive me nuts...I like to work in dfferent area's...
-
i travel once a month 220 mile round trip and yeh its worth the money and been doing it about 3 years now
-
5/6 miles for me
-
furtherest work i do is about 3 hours drive away, its every 1/4 so not that bad, i put a silly price and they took it :o so it would be rude not to
-
3 hours drive my god lol
