are you having outside ports ?
-
Sorry for jumping on your thread, but I'd also be interested to know this................and no outside ports. Thanks
-
I used clear reinforced hose to go from tank to pump and pump to outside ports, I fitted the system and designed it ;D

NOOOOOOOO DON`T DO IT !
please don`t waste your hard earned on crap hose ,get your self either 6mm microbore or 8mm minibore from a wfp supplier and you`ll also get some decent connectors ;)

What connection/tap do you have from the tank to fit the microbore, and similarly what connectors to fit the microbore to the inlet and outlet of the pump.
Thanks

No the microbore is the main hose on the reel,i use nylon plastic reducers from main 1/2" to 6mm ;)

ok, yh, thats what I would have, microbore on the reel, but just trying to find out the best pipe and connectors from tank to pump and from pump to reel. Sorry if I'm reading your reply wrong :-\ Just want to get it right ;)

I use 1/2" clear reinforced hose from tank to pump and to reel, and the black and orange (hozelock type) connectors with flow tap on them ;)

Excellent!!, Thanks very much PK , just what I wanted to know, appreciated :)

I avoid using connectors when i can. They always leak a little.
As the connection between water tank and pump will be a permanent connection, i think you are better off securing with a jubilee clip.
From the pump outlet to the hosereel, have it jubilee clipped where it joins the pump. And the other end where the hose plugs into hosereel, use a hozelock connection.
Plug that end into your reel and you are away.
If you have a brass swivel joint on your hosereel, then instead of hozelock, use a jubilee clip on there as well. Unless you disconnect much, avoid push fit connections when you can.

I have just learnt something from that post lol, why when something simple is the answer you cant see it.
Mark you have just saved me about £20 a year per van thanks ;D

Thanks Mark, so what connector/tap do you use from tank to pump??. I was looking at the 1" to hozelock, but if you suggest a jubilee clip connection, what do you use, other than the hoselock type, and does it have a tap??,
so basically
tank to pump (jubilee)
into pump (jubilee)
out of pump (jubilee)
pump to reel (hoselock)
I thought the swivel joint was a hoselock connection??, so are you saying, just jubilee clip this??
thanks again,
sorry for all the q's

swivel joint will be on your hose reel (if you have one)
anything inside the van jubilee clip it as hoselocks leak and let in air and you dont want air locks trust me.
I have for an age had hose locks on my hose reels at both ends never thought of clipping on side, which I will be testing next week ;)
-
Thanks,
so will this reel already have a swivel joint, so that I could clip straight on to it (second one down on page).
http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/Standard_Hose_Reels.html
I assumed the hozelock swivel joint (on the same page) was needed to be added ???...................obviously I'm barking up the wrong tree ?? ??? ::)
-
I have only one hoselock connector on my whole system and that's on the tank outlet. I jubilee clipped everything. Hoselocks only work well under pressure and aren't really designed to spin.
Buy a brass elbow from Gardiners for the hosereel (that's if you have a metal hosereel).
-
thanks ftp, this is where I'm getting confused. People are saying jubilee clip to the swivel on the reel, but the only brass swivel I can see on Gardiners is a hoselock??? ??? ???
-
You are right I had forgotten that was a hoselock fitting. I have a metal female on mine and I normally keep the reel pressurised all day anyway. I don't have any leaks or air locks.

Doesn't matter if they are hozelock. 1 inch hose or whatever it is, will fit snugly over the male end of a hozelock. A jubilee to hold it tight.

It is 1/2 inch hose that fits over the hozelock connection. Not 1 inch.
-
Right im confused now.....
What size is standard hosepipe ? different places go by mm and others by inch
Basically my system goes like this.....
Tank - standard hose - hoselock - shurflo - hoselock - standard hose - hoselock - standard hose - hoselock - metal reel
Now i have a brass connector that fits where the last hoselock goes (just not the right size hose)
Can anyone tell me what size hose im going to need and connectors as trying to find a tape measure / ruler in this house is like trying to find the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow (never happens)
I think im in thick mode tonight
-
your not the only one mate....lol, I'm the same. I just read Marks post and thought bloody hell 1" hose...thats massive.......but now been amended...lol

Mark, I've just tried cutting a length of 1/2" garden hose and fitting over a male hozelock connector on my outside tap............it won't go anywhere near it ????

I buy my all my gear from gardiners. The one 3 up from the bottom is what i use.

That clear hose is what i ran from tank > pump > hosereel. With jubilee clips holding everything tight.
It is a tight fit over the male hozelock but a cup of hot water and soaking the end of the hose will do the job.
-
Thanks Mark, that was the hose I was going to get. Interestingly enough, I bought two male hoselock connectors on ebay with 6mm barb which I tried to use on the pole (rather than easy fit), they just kept blowing off the female, I used one from gardiners and no popping off........................but the 1/2" hose easily fits over these connectors snugly but not the Gardiners one...............so something tells me, all these hoselock compatible connectors are all not necessarily the same diameter ????
-
Mark, do you mind me asking what connector you have at the base of your tank?? with/without a tap, which you jubilee your 1/2" hose to ??
thanks
Fieldsy

get one with a tap, at least if you need to sort anything out you can close the tank off, also good for winter when freezing
-
Would this one be ok??

couldn't find one on Gardiners.
thanks for the reply Ian.

I have a plastic on off valve between tank and pump. Buy your tank and other parts from the same supplier. Tell them and they will provide you with what you neeed.
It's hard to say anything without complicating the matter further. ;D
-
thanks Mark, so you have a 1" thread to 1/2" barb at the base of your tank, and then a tap inline?? Am I getting there mate...lol
cheers

do you have your tank yet ? I would call either purefreedom.co.uk or gardiners and get the lot over the phone, I used pure freedom twice for self install setups as they have every part needed.

Hi Ian,
Yes, have the tank, 650 upright in the van........just need ALL the other bits...lol. Just essentially need to know which is best to use at oulet point of tank. All I have at the moment is an open threaded hole...lol
-
I sourced a gas valve - one of those big red levers to shut the water off then fitted a hoselock after that. All the reducers etc can be found in B&Q or a plumbing store. Quality hosepipe can then be used to connect everything up - just get a reel of anti-kink half inch hose. The cheap stuff kinks and splits.
-
I use these brass 2 piece twist connectors....I use them for everything..so easy to connect different things and in varying sizes.

Cheers
Dave.
ps I do not know where in the U.K you would get them.
-
We use only John Guest connestors. Perfect and easy to instal-uninstall. No any drop of water into the van as well.

Vadim

here ya go
http://www.pump.co.uk/shop/Accessories&Fittings/SwiftBayonetCouplings/d32/sd138
have now fitted them throughout my ro system which is in a hallway landing of my first floor flat as I could not take the risk of the system failing if I had continued to use hoselocks ( and it has with catostrophic results and run-ins with my neighbour :-[), in my opinion these are the best if you need to easily connect/disconnect any part in your set up.

They look realLy good !
they don't Look watertight but i suppose they must be
-
The advantage of these fittings is that they come is different barb sizes and this enables different hose dia to be connected...they are just plain good fittings...and do the job.
Cheers
Dave.

I had my doubts as to how watertight they would be too, but they are
each unit has a rubber washer and they twist together and lock, under pressure they push together forming a tight seal and no leaks.
-
i have been using these for about 18 mths there are all sorts of different types and they NEVER leak below 300psi so i was told cheap too and i can get em from a shop round the corner from me.The bloke there refers to them as GEKA fittings, quality stuff and versatile :)
-
They look ideal. Found this site. The interesting thing is that the first item has hozelock type connection for fitting to hose, so I would suppose a leak proof seal and no jubilee clip required :)
