Title: Cleaning frames and sills
Post by: ryanst1982 on September 17, 2009, 06:01:31 pm
Hi All

Just wondered how many of you clean the sills and frames and if so, do you charge extra or just include it in your standard clean and also what do you use to clean the sills and frames

cheers

ryan

I am trad, and don't do it. I have been asked but its to much hassel when people are only willing to pay an extra couple of quid. I would rather upsell bedroom mirrors or internal cleaning than frames.

i charge extra for frames !

however , since the recession began we take a 2nd rag and clean all cills ( its mostly our water anyway as we only do regular cleans ) , quite a few customers have commented on it , obviously in a positive way ( though admittedly none complained before !! )

I usually wipe over frames/sills.  Just a quick wipe though.

Same here, more money in the end, because if they don't want the frames done I only reduce by a couple of quid. Apart from that, people see us cleaning frames and in some cases have swopped over to us from their old WC.Even though we are 20% or more expensive. Depends on the custy I suppose, but the neighbours can see the difference when we have cleaned with frames, and the house next door hasn't had theirs done. All frames are UPVC here as standard, so no big deal.

i charge a minimum of 50p for frames and usually the most i charge extra is £1, i wipe all sills free of charge and i find that the customers appreciate it. Not a lot of people have there frames done though and i prefer it that way as the time they take to do doesnt justify the extra money

I always cleaned the frames when i was trad and now wfp. On a monthly account, after the initial clean there is very little work to be done on them afterwards. And it does look good with white upvc.

Have old timers found that the pvc ones still degrade over time and go grey ?

Yeah, got some that are going grey and they are only 7 or 8 years old. It's what happens if the aren't cleaned regularly. In most cases, they can be saved, need special cleaners, depending how bad they are.

Sills are standard, frames are extra, for the ones who want it they normally get them done 2-4 times a year or every other clean and we charge the same on top as what the window price is.  ie:  Windows £10, windows and frames £20.
