Title: big job on busy road
Post by: Richy L on September 17, 2009, 05:38:23 pm
Ive got a job that may come in that is 5 stories high, a chemical clean on limestone.
The problem is that it is over a very busy street - lots of people and lots of traffic - we're talking a bus every 60 seconds! What is the best way to go about this? scaffold will be very expensive, but would i be allowed a cherry picker to sit in the road? help please!

If you are going to be causing an obstuction then you will need to arrange for traffic control methods to be in place. If you are also effecting pedestrians then a temporary footpath needs to be set up. You can hire traffic lights / boundaries for the pedestrians - but you have to check and get this authorised by the council in that area.

You will also require drawings of how you are setting up the scaffold or cherry picker and traffic control methods for the council

Hope this helps

Contact someone in health and safety. A traffic management plan has to be implemented. Alternatively you can apply to council about getting road closed but that takes lots of time.. Make sure you price job well as you'll need extra staff barriers traffic lights signs etc......
