Hello,
Just wanted what peoples experiences were when advertising their business with a mobile phone number as opposed to a mobile.
Anyone had any noticeable results using a landline rather than mobile for picking up customers. Just trying to guage whether people are reluctant to use a mobile?
Any vies welcomed.

Hi, I advertise using both my landline and mobile number, actually I have a question for people re phone numbers- do most people tend to give out there "home " landline no or have a seperate 0845/0800 no for a more professional touch?? Just wondered!
Cheers Nat

I think it depends how 'big' you want to look. Those who are small local buinesses and who work to this fact often prefer the 'look' of an ordinary landline number so as to not look too 'big'.

I agree with vacman. 0845 numbers may look more professional, but if you are not a nationwide business then a local code number is more preferable to potential customers.
I use landline and mobile number for advertising. I am of the thought that people are still reluctant to call a business if they only have a mobile number.

I too have a landline and a mobile.
The landline is a "normal" number and is dedicated office line, separate to the home line. Only costs me about £19 per month as I use my mobile for all outgoing calls as I have a contract for 400 min per month.
I also have 2 other "normal" numbers for other areas I target, these get transferred to my own office number. These 2 numbers and transfer calls (not a lot) cost me about £7.50 per month.

Great! thanks for the replys will stick with the "normal" landline number but may get another one for personal call's...

Hi Nat if your landline is with BT you can get an additional number using the same line, when additional number used it rings differently.costs sweeties and saves the cost of additional line. Gordon

People think its pykies if you only use a mobile number. I have the mobile, normal landline and three adjacent code landlines. I sub for a big drain firm and they just buy landline numbers and go to a call centre in essex - they are still surprised when I pitch up with a different code on the van so they are told I'm a subbie and give them my card for next time

Nat,
after starting this post initially I have found out that you can get VOIP which will give you an addtional landline with unlimited calls to uk landlines. This works out at around £5 a month (maybe cheaper) and basically uses your existing broadband connection as opposed to taking out a new line.
There are a few companies that offer this. Maybe beneficial for those that have cable who will be charged full price for an additional landline.

I was wondering the same thing a while back. I really thought it would be more professional to have a land line. So what I did is get a bt line installed with call diversion. I have all calls diverted from my land line to my mobile currently. But in the future if I decide to get an office instead of running it from home I will already have the number in place. I also have the VOIP that was installed with the land line because I took the internet option also. I use the VOIP as a dedicated fax line so I have the appearance of a hard office even though I am still working from home. Not that I think working from home is a bad thing, it sure saves on overhead and I believe I will be able to work from home until about the 250,000 to 300,000 turnover mark, but at that time the cost of the office will be spread over more contracts and be more viable without having to increase prices and make my business less competitive.
Long story Long, I think having a landline looks more professional but saying that I made it to six figures without the landline. I think it is something to consider if you have plans to move to the next level and if your margins allow it, it is better to get it before you need it so that it is in place at the right time. I think contracts of 1000 per month or larger probably would consider what they percieve as proffessioalism, could be land lines, fax lines, lettered vans, uniformed staff, ability to provide consumables.
Cheers

dont you have to pay when it is diverted to a mobile for the incomeing call
im sure i was when i diverted the landlane to the mobile

Normally you would pay for diverting calls. But i actually bought this 0800 for £150.00 and its mine for life. For that £150.00 i get 1000 minutes of incoming calls free every month and i can divert it to any number(land line or mobile) as often as i want, all on line in few seconds. You can also monitor all you calls on line, who called you, time. date etc
I also have 0845 number for my other business and i pay £ 0.12 per minute when someone calls me, but for this number there was no set up fee or any other charges. just pay when i receive calls
If anybody interested in buying 0800 i can try and find my invoice with company name
-
Can you give me the contact number, I was using a similar firm, and they are not now taking phone calls
Thanks

We use the BT call central 0800 number £15 per month with free minutes this can be used on mobiles and landlines but also you can have up to 5 Ext's for other staff and fax and call from it.
We have ours on the mobile as it easy to put on hold or put on line 2 :)
