any ideas? I ould you say graffiti removal chemicals? paint thinnners? has anyone ever carried this out?

Hi
You can buy latex paint, it goes on clear and hardens white, you then peel it off. usually used to take smoke off of brick, may work for undercoat?

right, i dont think i should attempt that as i dont know what im doing. i might make more mess.
You dont think the chemicals i mentioned will work do you?

undercoat sould come off pretty easy with chemicals but may need two or three applications in odd stubborn areas where it has soaked into the pointing, my advice is offer to do a trial patch before offering a qoute.

We use a local supplier's paint-stripping gel.
Fairly sure it's along the same lines as nitromors but a fraction of the price.
Works well at stripping all the paint I've tried it on.
If no chemical supplier local to you then use Nitromors.

First of all any chance you can get a pic of the brickwork.
Reason being is this,i take its a house if so theres two type of red brick that was common used in this country
Accrington Bloods from Lancashire and Red Builder's knowen as "rubbers" both are or can be rather soft face and quite porous one of the reasons why they painted them, this is where if not done right can lead you into problems.
1. Do not use high pressure(3000psi) NOR A TURBO NOZZEL your'll score the face of the bricks
2. If it is an old house chances are the motar will be lime based you hit that so much as a strong pee your'll blow the pointing out,that you dont want to do.
You say undercoat paint ??? a wild guess this would be what was put on back in th 50's or 60's which would be then lead based and trust me,this is a bitch to remove your going to need heat and chems so my surggestion would be
Paramose AS10 low pressure and hot water ie no less than 100C
Also theres a way of doing it to,but i wont go into that right now
The advice i give here is from what i'm reading from the heading without actually seeing it,well ???
