Today at work i was writing a bill out for a customer when a neighbor approached me about having her windows cleaned , distracted by her i absent mindedly pushed the bill through the letterbox instead of in the post box fixed to the wall next to the door. Instantly the little terrier (westie) jumped up and bit me on the index finger. The dog was holding on , basically by my fingernail until a pulled my hand back through the letterbox tearing a chunk out of my finger and loosing the fingernail. Have been to A&E to have paper stiches in and antibiotics prescribed. First time in 10 yrs of cleaning i have been bitten . Anybody else been snapped?

Yes.
Once, and once only in all my 40-odd years in the job. And it wasn't even a customer's dog, it was a stray that took objection to me climbing up my ladder and ran across the road, jumped up and bit my foot.
Didn't do me a lot of harm, I was wearing my usual Peter Storms with thick rubber soles.
It backed off to have another go, but I was ready for it the second time - as it leaped up I stamped down as hard as I could on the top of its head, its head jerked downwards under the impetus of my size eleven and its jaw crashed into the rung just below it.
Exit one sorry mutt with a very sore head and jaw - bet it regretted the day it decided to try a mouthful of me ;D ;D

got bitten when i was a milkman, collecting money from an old dear, when her blind poodle came to see what was going on,started sniffing me leg, then next instant bit be in the nuts. i squealed like a little girl. the custy turned round to see what was happening. i told her the dog just bit me, she didn't believe me. couldn't really show her the bite marks could i. thank god i was wearing thick jeans at the time, escaped with a bit of bruising :o :o :o

I have 13 stiches in my cheek from a Golden Retreaver. Customer had to take me to hospital!

If the dog are a problem costomer should have a sign on the door or they would be responsable for damages. What I do with leaflets I use a stiff alu plate to push them through and if the bugger nips that her has the pain.
-
if the custy has a bad dog maybe they should be dropped to save future trouble

Been bitten twice. Both jack russels.
Same as Tony Talbot then ;D.

I have never been bitten, but came close to it. If I know the customer has a dog, I ring the doorbell before I start cleaning and ask them to keep the dog inside until I have finished cleaning. I think there is no need to dump a custy, because they have a dog.
I've also had custys saying "Don't worry he's harmless", but I always reply "You should see the scars I have from harmless dogs" ;D
-
It's the dog owners who are to blame, not the dogs.

today while decorating in tenents house the dog [british bull dog] had my mate trapped in the kitchen tenent seid : im sorry its the sound of your steps he hates the window cleaner :o
-
I had exactly the same thing happen to me, maybe 15 years ago. Dog was tugging at my finger through the letterbox, split my nail down the centre and blood everywhere. Customers laughed when I told them.
Also had a Golden Retriever that used to always have a nip at me until I clipped it under the chin with my heel. It was fine with me after that.
Also had a Tortoise head-butting my boot, one day.

Im not a dog person. Quite new to window cleaning not been bit yet but i am careful.
One of my customers, who is out in the day, has a dog (Which i have just seen for the first time) at the side of the house on a long chain to his outside kennal. He looks nice enough but i dont trust dogs so will be phoning the customer before i clean the windows.

Wouldnt mind being a Jack Russell if she cleaned windows, she could sue me all day long for one nibble of that ;D

I had a tortoise chase me out of a garden once.
I only just made it out in time.

Years back a German Shepherd tried to have a go at me when i entered a garden i just chucked my ladder on top of it 1 - 0 to the window cleaner. that dog certainly got the gist of health & safety while working with ladders.
>:(

Had a big fat ugly female english mastiff bite me the other month. Got me on the leg. Customers knew the time i would be there as it was pre arranged because of the dog. Her half soaked husband thought she would be alright and as i walked through the gate, she got me.

Another good reason to wear steels.
-
ex customer had 5 rotties, i love rotties.
4 of em were always in the garage and i never saw them
but the one in the house hated me, a proper guard dog!
she always said he was the friendliest.
one summers day i was going down the side, with ladders on shoulder, " come in love" as i opened the gate "ive tied him up you'll be ok"
in i goes
hears this 'snap'. she'd only tied him up with washing line.
he got a proper hold of my arm and started shaking its head,
thing is i saw him coming but i was stuck down this side alley.
she was giving it a right kicking and screaming at it to let go.
put a right gash in my arm, blood all over.
husband came back and said "lucky it wern't one of 'tothers mate, they'd of killed ya"
i dropped the whole cul de sac because of that. wern't going there again.
-
been bitten on fingers 3 times pushing slip through and countless times on my legs, just get on with it and remember those dogs for future referance
-
i have a really nasty dog on my round, it's somthing crossed with a mastif about the size of a great dane, real evil sod, i ring the owner from the road and she has to put it in the garage every time i do the windows. she said it's the noise of the ladders that sends him loopy :(
-
dont know weather this is true or just me thinking it but i used wooden ladders
for a while and dogs dont go off on one like with alloys; but lets face it some dogs
just have a taste for flesh.
-
worst dog attack ever was from the ex wife, she gave me a right mauling in the divorce :'( :'( :'( :'(
