what pay structures do you put in place, also how do you go about it with the cancelations etc. I have my way I do this which is pay a tenner per new customer between the price of £5 to £15 which would be front only or full house if its over £15 they get whatever the clean comes to.
i pay out after the first clean has been carried out and state that any cancalations before the third clean must be replaced.
The canvasser i use thinks this isnt fair with the 3 month period. I dont think im being harsh, if they are going to cancal it will more than likely be in the first few cleans as my poor loyal canvasser notices, he reckons i should gaurantee them for 2 cleans for which my answer is tough poo poo. How do you arrange the t's and c's with your's??.
-
where did you get the 3 month thing from? ;)
it does sound a little compliacted in terms of the payment structure, just keep it simple. i still get dikheds even with all the terms and conditions etc, not as much as i used to without it, you just have to take them on the chin
-
Some rich window cleaner gave me the idea some time ago. 8)
-
i have my own canvasser and i pay her the industry going rate (which i would have expected you would have charged me when you offered me canvassing services no more than 3 months ago then never responded to my numerous emails!!) 2x monthly 100% refund if cancel before first clean and and 50% refund if cancel before the second clean.
-
sorry. i gave up canvassing. Dont use that email address anymore
-
I pay 1st clean and replace any cancelations within 2cleans, hes averaging (spelling) £45 a hour, just got list off him for 1st cleans tomorrow, ;D
-
i pay mine value of clean, and now will ask him for replacement if cancelled in 1st 3 months!
he has only done one morning so far, and done well for himself, similar to the £45 per hour mentioned earlier.
wish i was a canvasser!
oh actually, no, i don't, i am honest, hard working and reliable! 8)
-
I don't actually employ any canvassers at the moment but as soon as I get time to produce a quote form so that every house is priced exactly as I want it I will be.
I am thinking of paying them 1.5 times the clean price, paying them 1/2 the price of each of the first 3 cleans if any cancel in that time there payment stops.
What do you guys think?
Regards
Al

Im at the stage where thinking of taking on a canvasser.
Does anyone use the canvasser to get the appointment then you go and price up?
Or allow him to price up too?
-
Seems waste of time mick, i understand the thinking but you are giving yourself more work on the other hand it would definitely stop the crap getting through as you would price properly and make sure that they were defintitely serious as they would not be just making a split decision on the door step!!
-
I would prefer to price up tbh, i price very high, and dont think the canvasser would be confident enough to.....
Plus could price up for add ons!!!!
i know its more work, But i know i could get a higher price then the canvasser could< just dont have the time to go out knocking :(
-
My canvasser gets better prices then me but then he gets the 1st clean so the higher the better he gets paid

How long has your canvasser been with you?...what does he bring in on average for you?
-
Minimum £50 a evening 5-7
-
What would be the average job for that £50? I have a minimum of £12.50 what do you set yours at for the canvasser?
-
minimum £10 but thats for 2 up 2 down, but the average price hes getting for me is £15
-
Nice one, seems like you got a good canvasser there!!!
-
Hes my cousin, needs a job to support his family but going to uni too so it suits, he was worried that id only need him for a while but i reassured him that i want him to keep going till i employee, he use to be a salesman for the water company and double glazing, also picks up things 1st time of being told and done his home work on wfp and how to produce pure water so i leave it too him all he does is asks where im going to be then canvasses that area, all is happy ;D
-
how do most of you guys find your canvasser.
because i want asap cheers
-
just keep hold of him chris ;)
-
Sorry to ressurect this thread but how is your canvassers doing guys??
I am getting too busy to knock enough i will do weekends too but want someone out mid week in evening, if i could get £50 an evening like you are chris thatd be quality, i do £50 in no time in midday, weekends so someone else should do easy...
Its just getting them to price right and not rip you off, and not spreading the round too far, it needs to stay compact really...

i use a canvasser pay 8.00 per hour 10 hours a week with bonus if job lasts more than three months full first clean normally after threee months you know if they are going to last.
he targets jobs between £25-35 seems to work quite well, i personally dont take on customers less than £20.00 as this has been my minimum charge for last two years and only have 1/2 dozen of them
we do one off cleans if asked when his cavassing but minimum of £75.00

my canvasser goes out at weekends and usually picks up £150 to £250 of new work i now pay whatever the price of the clean is up front as he,s been with me for a while now , i have told him to charge double for first cleans if the upvc is a mess as i,ve had a few cancel after the first clean and lets face it there,s a lot of work in cleaning the upvc when its a mess , i don,t claw back money if they cancel as i want to keep him as he prices well and gets good quality work , if you want to expand your business its a must to get your own canvasser and treat them as well as you can regards alan

Did it take a while for him to start pricing right alan, and at first did you pay the first clean after you'd done it, and was that what you paid him x1 clean??
Thanks For advice, i really want a canvasser been trying for ages, gonna have another big push to find one now as i feel its the next step...

Hi Alan it sounds like your canvasser is doing a great job.
General question - when is the best time to go canvassing people? My thoughts are weekends and maybe 5-8pm in the evenings. Anyone do Sundays?
-
if you want to keep a canvasser i think you have to give them a bit of leeway on the pricing , my experience is that you will agree with most of there pricing but some are a bit underpriced but i don,t let it bother me , when i first started him i paid aftwer the first clean , which i think is advisable , you can tweak the pricing a bit as you go along but your main aim is to grow your business quickly so i think its unreasonable to expect everything to be spot on , overall i am very happy that i went down this route regards alan
-
Alan - how did you find your canvasser?
-
i advertised in the local rag for a door canvasser able to canvass on there own i had a guy reply and he worked very well for several months the guy i use now is a mate i used to sell door to door with years ago , i,ve found the best time to canvass is on a sunday between 11.30 and 5 regards alan

sorry don't understand your second sentance?
-
Alot dont want to knock on a sunday- but its a phsychological barrier that they imagine the rejection will be amplified by the fact its a "day of rest"
I find this is not the case and in fact it is the best time to knock
That make sense?
-
Thanks - understood !
Cheers
Mike

imo sunday is the very best day to knock , they are relaxed and able to listen to you and make a descision , i used to sell airiel photography door to door for a few years and all the guys that did it said the same , get out on a sunday you,ll pick up loads regards alan
