where does the white residue come from and creeps from edges?

Oxidised frames most likely. Rub your finger over the frame of the offending window, if it's white, then that's the issue.

Are you wfp or trad?

we are wfp,and we have had milky water coming off the frames,

is it a problem?

Yes it's a very big problem, sure fine way to mess up a clean. :)

On first cleans I really give the frames a good scrub and then re-start and do the glass only.

On subsequent cleans after I wash the windows I make sure I rinse the glass only, making sure I don't rinse frame and glass.

It seems to work, but I don't/can't check, but I've not had any complaints for... well a few years at least.

Seems fine if you rinse well. Which is understandable really.

Isnt that what we're meant to do, rinse well?

i have 1 house that allways comes up crap

BUT, i have explained the issues and rubbed my thumb on the frame and showed them its white, they seem to accept the less than perfect job

keep scrubbing it evemtually stops , but will come back some months later then you have to scrub again.

It always comes back so just ignore the frames, and just do the glass. If they have black gaskets they should be allright, if you are accurate enough with the brush of course.
