Title: fairy Vs Squeegee off
Post by: simon knight on September 01, 2009, 05:10:19 pm

Ran out of Squeegee off a couple of weeks back and haven't been anywhere near B&Q to restock so have been using Fairy instead.

Verdict: Zero difference (except that Fairy is a quarter of the price and obtainable anywhere).

Excellent cleaning results and virtually no 'creep-in' from the edges after squeegeeing = less detailing needed.

Cheers. Will give it a try when my love affair with the Fairy bottle has run it's course.

No visable difference, but fairy leaves a residue which attracts dust and smoke more than "Squeegee off".

I'll second that. Started using GG4 today and it beats squeegee off by miles. Never tried fairy.

I mix my GG3 with a little bit of squeegee off so theres some suds on the window and a little bit better on the slip and i think its great stuff.

expensive but i find my rubbers last longer because when using fairy i get lots of lines etc when blading.

For the guys who only use GG3/4 on it's own- what rubber do you use?

I use pulex standard & to fan the squeegee with gg3 I need to use loads of the stuff just to get enough slip!

when you buy gg3-4 for the first time, you get the mixing bottle with it, you dont need to ad soap, i use ettor soft rubber, and it glides easily, dont know about other rubbers, but i wouldnt have thought it would make any diffrence which type you use, if you ad soap, it stops the product from doing what it is meant to do, i think it cuts the shine down,

I am using Unger soft rubber. I only used a small amount of gg4 today and didn't have any problems with slip.

I just found the benefits of squeegee off/gg3 not worth the difference in price to a good old bottle of fairy , but when i have used them in the past they do have advantages in that they arent so quick to streak if you leave a small streak or water behind... BUt that happens so rarely that fairy is fine for me, and it makes your hands soft :)

Using Unger soft rubber - glides across the windows lovely.

I got a mixing bottle!!   ;D

Altho expensive i thinks it pays for itself in quicker working - using less of the stuff and giving a quality finish.

I see what people are saying with GG being expensive but i seriously think it makes your rubbers last longer. I ran out of GG the other month used some fairy on some down stairs windows (ups WFP) and rubber lasted five miniutes, and i use unger soft

So, how much (ml) of GG are you all using in your bucket (8-10Ltrs of water) ?

For me to get any slip with GG I need to use loads of the stuff! at least 50ml!!!!!

Comments on Squeegee Drag
Glass Gleam-3 offers perfect drag reduction when you squeegee off the glass. Because it allows the squeegee to remove the water so completely, you might notice more drag on successive passes than you do on the first one.

I'll say thats very true..  after a pass you cant move the squeegee at all! :o

So just get it right on the 1st pass ;D

no faning, or fancy manouvers, just straight top to bottom blading , no streaks or smears, simple as that

Ahhhhh, that's why it works for you. For us fannys though it's a different ball game!

Anyway, I'm more than happy to add a drop of squeegee off & have the perfect solution! ;)

fairy up liquid,  try the lemon smells yummey

it is a well known fact that although washing up liquid does clean dishes and windows very well it is designed in a particular way.

The easiest way and the best results for cleaning plates mugs etc is to rinse under tap running warm water wiping either with the fingers or a clean cloth.

When using a washing up liquid it is designed to leave a "film" of soap on the dishes ( or windows) this is what gives the lovely shine and that attractive rainbow reflection.

What people don't realise is that the film that is left is soap and we all know that soap is effective in washing away dirt because the dirt sticks to the soap.

This is the clever bit , this is the bit that ensures future sales of washing up liquid, after eating from a plate the food " sticks" to the soap residue and seems difficult to wash off so what do we do??

Yes we use more washing up liquid to help remove the food stuck to the plate which dries again and food/dirt then sticks  even more so you use more washing up liquid and then you .............

This is why wfp and pure water leaves the window cleaner for longer, there is no soap for the dirt to stick too.

Think i am wrong????

Ask yourself this, do you rinse and rinse rinse the soap/shampoo off of your car or van after washing it ? or do you just leave the soap to dry????? When washing your face do you leave the soap on your skin or do you wash it off????

Soap and particularly washing up liquid sticks to the surface it is applied too and this is how GG3 and GG4 differ they are designed to remove the dirt but not to leave a sticky residue " shining " on the glass.

Gordon

ps wish i had designed washing up liquid. The more you use the more you use.

And there's me thinking Fairy was a detergent designed to break down grease.
I don't wash anymore because I was attracting dirt all day. Just attract flies now instead.  ::)

and what many dont know, is hospitals do not use any soaps for to wash dishes or pots as the soap residue left on, atracts bacteria  ::) one reason my wife left, she said it was almost imposible to get them cleaned without soap, no wondered people are dying in those places  >:(

Fairy isnt good in sun light as it leaves the film which you can easily see
