Really suffering lately it's got to the stage where my arm will bend to ninety degrees (just) and extend to about a hundred and twenty. Is it just me and old age or is it a common complaint with window cleaners particularly wfp?
Anyone had cortisone in the elbow?
-
Ive got tennis elbow too :( :( :(
-
This usually cures it...

Probably what caused it.

I've had it for 12 months. It started from a full on intense day of wfp last year. Didn't realise it was tennis elbow untill it didn't go away & just kept getting worse. Hoped resting it over last xmas would help but it didn't make any difference. Had physio a few times but that didn't help either so I just put up with it. It is a lot better now but is still there, some days worse than others. I still do quite a lot of trad so that helps ease the strain on it.
Try & alter your technique to ease the strain on it. i.e. don't grip the pole any harder than is needed & try to let your other arm take some pressure away. Over-gripping is natural & common practice I found, it's actually quite hard not to do it. ;)

never played the game.......

Probably what caused it.
;D

Tried every thing ive had it since i started WFP
cortzone injection worked for 2 weeks no way im having another
all the heat and freeze sprays
dog oil (old fashioned remedy)
voltarol pain gel (worked for a while but is bloody expensive for long term)
even bought a hot-tub which suprisingly does ease it off (good exuse to the missus for buying one ;D ;D)
went back to the doctor who couldnt believe that i hadnt been given anti-inflamitorys from the other doctor
he gave me DICLOFENAC SODIUM ENTERIC 50mg 3 times a day and by the third tablet it had gone and i was pain free
comes back if i forget to take a couple of tablets at weekend
Ive got them on long term repeat perscripition now and i can pick my coffee up in a morning without pain
-
Maybe it's gout?
-
Unless your very very unlucky it runs it`s course over about a year or so and then mor or less goes,i had it for about a year daily all i had to do was rest it on the side of the couch to start it off.The only thing that brings it on now and only very slightly is doing gutter and facia cleaning with the pole, beleive it or not i reckon trad sometimes brings it on worse with swinging the ladder about and getting it on and off the van.

I had bad tennis elbow from a major garden clean out and it was killing me, couldn't sleep at night etc etc.
I went to the doctor (2 weeks ago) who said I could go on Voltaren anti Inflam' tablet but they could give me stomach ulcers. I said bugger that and had the cortisone injection instead. It wasn't painful he give me 2 injections first was an anaesthetic and the second was the cortisone. It has made a huge difference and the pain is nearly gone. He did say it was 50-50 if it would help and also to try again after 1 month and again it would be 50-50. I can sleep ok now though there is still a little discomfort at times but no major pain.
Go have the cortisone injection and you will feel heaps better. Forget rubbing cream on it it doesn't work. I tried cold, heat packs and exercise but the cortisone was the only thing that helped.

I had it really bad, sometimes i could not hold a cup!!
i tried lots of things...
finally i paid for acupuncture privately....
£25.00
half hour of tiny painless needles all over...
I thought hmmm dont think so...
she recommended i had 2 treatments...
so i went back the following week , did it again.
And its vanished completely.
I cannot say emphasise enough that you must try this NOW!
It works 100%
-
Yes mate, everyone if it happens to you, and act fast, try it 8)

Update: things got really bad yesterday, in an aweful lot of pain and not much sleep last night. This morning I was in agony and could barely wind the reel. Sent wifey out to get one of those armband things that strap around the forearm squeezing the tendons tight.
Verdict: brilliant, not that comfortable but it certainly helps.

I got it for the second time in 10 years and when I get tired i find it really hurts. When I lie on the bed I cant move my arm at all, i have even lifted it with my other arm (no joke) I just put up with it

Cant stand the taste of it. It comes back on you for the rest of the day

It got to the point when i couldnt lift me flask from van floor, so went to docs and he gave me a cortizone injection but said i needed to rest, so already had booked the lakes for a week, what a perfect opportunity to rest i thought. Had injection in left arm the day i went on holiday.
The next day i spent 3 hours in keswick cottage hospital due to intense pain, then sent to Penrith for 1 and half hours of gas and air and an inflammatory injection in backside. Turns out the Dr injected straight in to the nerve.
After all that me left arm if champion now,but not sure if i will bother with the right one. Have since bought a Gardiner sLx and the pressures off. ;D

Mind i'm used to the gas and air thats bandied about on here! :o

Ie had tennis elbow, was out of work for two weeks doctor said i had to rest it or it would stay , not had problem since,, funnily enough though i traced it back not to window cleaning but when i bought a nintendo wii haha, the lack of resistance when i was swinging my arm around playing tennis etc realy damaged my elbow coupled with cleaning ...
At the minute though im getting sciatica, it seems to come for a week then gor for 2 then back worse than ever etc... Its doing my head in only thing i can do is hammer painkillers / anti imflammatories
Anyoine found good relief from it?

so the slx is the cure
-
Yep...... the SLX is the cure, an expensive one mind you, but no regrets purchasing it! ;D ;)
-
Wish it was, I have the S2 also. ;D
Problem comes from twisting the joint, so trad cleaning, scrubbing the sills and conservatory roof cleaning is what buggers mine up. Normal wfp work seems fine.

Opposite for me, it's wfp that does mine, trad no probs!!
-
I find trad caused my knees problems, but the pole gives me tennis elbow. However taking cod liver oil and glucosamine sulphate seems to keep the tennis elbow at bay, if i miss taking them for a few days I get the pains back. A good pole like the slx is also important.

tennis elbow is caused thought excessive use of incompleat moviements ( the arm does no move a full circle .The doctors will give a quortzone jad but he only trys to fix the only cure is is a opp and mine both down.Common to many industries my daughter has it from cheffing ,will have opperation in October.Tell the docter you have ben battling for year or he will make you wait and let you suffer. It will not get better on its own unless you dont work.
-
cheffing? What's that ???
-
ftp, are you going to take any advice and try one or two of the above "cures".
let us know how you go on.

:) Well, I had acupuncture on my back years ago and it did absolutely nothing for me apart from making my feet twitch where the needles hit a nerve. After the session I stood back up and pulled my jeans back on only to find a needle sticking out of the back of my kneecap!
So, no I have no faith in it.
Wife keeps telling me to see the doctor - i've got too much work on to sit in the surgery for two hours. I take glucosamine every day so obviously that's a waste of money too.
Right arm has been bad for years and it's just rearing it's head in the left now too.
Strange really because i shouldn't be like this a only nineteen. ;D
-
cheffing is working as cheff in a retuarant

Yes, stretching your lower back muscles and hamstring. Seemples.

Things like acupuncture or yoga are too hookey for the majority on here to try. If it ain't out a bottle and on prescription, it won't work. ???

I have no problems with my elbows but my fingers ache like a buggar a lot of the time. It must be work related as I've just had a couple of weeks of and they're fine at the moment. I just put it down to holding a pole all day.
Wierd isn't it :-\
-
i get aching fingers but i put that down to spending 12-18hrs a day on the playstation when i was younger
-
Upto last year i used to train alot at the gym which stressed my joints alot so maybe you guys just need some light resistance training a few hrs a week
-
Remind me to buy everyone on here a chemist for xmas.........................bloody hell wer'e falling to pieces ;D :P

To think that a couple of trips to the osteo or acup will cure it over night is ridiculous, any good doctor will tell you that unless you give it complete rest it has to run it`s course ie 9-12 months if your still working with it daily.
