In your old factory jobs you always had the lazy bar stewards who didn't pull their weight but got paid the same as you, the skivers who's granny had died again so wouldn't be in this afternoon, the saps who caught a cold and couldn't work 'cos theyve got the flu. The pillocks with less knowledge than you that had to be hidden away but still got paid the same - the list goes on.
Give them this job and they couldn't hack it. The more you work the more you get paid. Stop work and the money stops - simples.

argh i miss them days, getting paid when having a BBQ on the beach, getting paid when sat on the prom eating a ice cream ( giving to you by the ice cream guy as its good that he keeps in your good books ), eating chinese food at 10 in the morning for break time :), doing "private work" in the companies time, thus earning double money, good times indeed
now, i have to work :(

Really!!! they were the ones that always got paid more not the same

when i worked for the local council i had a boss who was totaly crap in every way, complaints from the staff went on for years, then they eventually sorted it and promoted him out of his position, no wonder the countrys going nipples north :(

Best thing...just earnt my target earning this week week so have today off....choices are the best thing about this job.
Yesterday I chose to decline a job....about 12 weeks ago..I quoted and the lady was fine and we agreed a date(I have a dated scheduled round)...day before the clean the husband phones and says dont bother as the sun blinds will be down as it will be sunny...yesterday the lady comes out asks if I will clean the house..I explain that given that the husband gave me such a lame excuse I have filled that place...plus I do not want to be in between a couple war-ing.
Choices...that is the best thing about this job...oh yeah and earning 100k per year partime.

I volunteer at the local hospital as a surgeon..(did a NVQ for it last year) ;D

I guess part-timers cant sell their work for 10x value as they dont have enough work!

I spent the majority of my 20's trying to 'drop out' of society. By the time i was 30 i realised that it is a myth.
But this job is the nearest i have ever been to feeling that sense of freedom.
Other self employed people might also think this, but the recurring nature of gaining a customer, gives window cleaning the edge.

Because instead of earning a decent wage they could work 10 years on 800-1000 a week then retire or reduce the round to part time knowing theyve earned enough for there pension allowing themm to relax and enjoy life

You could have expanded with the other day...then you would have worked a five day week like normal people do....lol

or they could just work time , enjoy life as it happens and not wait 10 years, life is for living

Too true. The only reason I work long hours s because I am repaying debts from before the days that I adopted your philosophy Matt.
Something that might give you a smile. I was on my friend's computer yesterday and was on this site. Her kiddie was looking over my shoulder, pointed at your avatar and said "Oooh look A Filmore !!". All VW campers are Filmores apparently.

its funny when i am out in mine, its either a " hippy van " or filmore, its not so good when they walk up to the van with a pebble / rock from the beach that looks like it will put a gouge in the paint though , bless them

It tells a lot of how willing to work you are that you put being paid what you earn as a good point. Although I love day dreaming and planning to take over the business world, I find it hard to do the actual manual work involved, so being paid literally what you earn for my is a downside, lazy barsteward that I am. Saying that, I do the work, but still it's the downside for me.
It's great to see a "good things about the job" thread, as a new starter here's the good things about window cleaning that I'm enjoying...
Put the time in and I can get regular customers.
I used to own a high end valeting business, in any mobile valeting service it's VERY hard to get a £25 or £30 regular monthly mini valet customer as most are just happy taking the car through the cheapest brushwash or handwash and aren't bothered about inflicting swirl and marring. I'm loving the fact that I'm getting and growing regular customers so easily, from what I've been used to in valeting anyway, especially if I stumble upon a needy area when canvassing. It really motivates me thinking - how many customers will I get tonight, 2 or 20 :)
It's a hands on job, you can control the quality every time (if you're solo that is). Just like other services that I've offered, it's working with your hands, which definitely gives you a feel good factor.
It's outdoors. Even though it can sometimes be a pain getting going when it's freezing and gloomy in the winter, we get fresh air every day, as opposed to being stuck in a Halogen lit office or similar.
Low cost start up. Maybe seen as a downside from the perspective of an established business, as plenty of dossers can easily go out offering stupidly cheap and unprofessional cleaning, but from my newbie point of view it's fantastic to be able to set up so cheaply (compared to other businesses) for trad work and start earning.
I look forward to the day I'm ready and can afford wfp too, and expand into higher commercial work.

like you sparrow i enjoyed expanding the business and only took £200 a week wages so i kept capital in the business - The 5th day was spent recharging as we normally worked from 8am - 6pm OR LATER so i could have gone to 8 hour days and done 5 days but i now enjoy a longer hour work ethic of 12 - 15 hour days which is more fun becasue my new business is much larger and is slowly getting ready to start whcih is fantastic -
