Did a job a few weeks ago, couple had 2 puppies which had a few accidents on the carpet in 2 rooms.
Cleaned as normal with urine neut. & sanitiser.
Got a call back a week later, still a strong urine smell.
I suggested that it may have soaked through to the underlay.
She said that her boyfriend who was a trainee carpet fitter had replaced the underlay throughout the day before the 1st clean was done.
Agreed to go back, on my hands and knees with my nose close to the floor managed to locate where they pee'd, right in the middle of the room, cleaned throughout again, this time really blitzing the affected areas with the same again.
Upon completion there was no hint of a smell, even with nose to the carpet and customer said she was happy.
Got another call today saying the smell had returned again and could I do anything else.
I suggested that maybe the backing was contaminated and had resoiled the underlay and unless he was going to pull up the whole carpet there is not alot else I can do about it.
Right or wrong?
Anything else I could try?

I'd suggest she is imagining it and you can clean it again but it will cost and she probably will still smell it. The truth hurts sometimes. :'(

Paul
What are you using to deal with it?

Urine neutraliser & Cleansan sanistiser.
Used in the past succesfully.

do you think the puppies have had accidents since the original work was carried out?

Did suggest that to them, she said no, but she would of course.

I think a finish with a good odour neutraliser would make all the difference. Try soaking it with nemesis odour neutraliser and just leaving it.

Get the carpet up and look at the backing if it shows a water mark then the urine will have gotten into the backing, the other thing you could do is soak the affected area in a urine neutraliser and then sprinkle cat litter on it and it will absorb the moisture and hopefully the smell.
