I must be doing something horribly wrong with my DI canisters, my TDS outta the tap is around 050 and i occassionaly use my DI for backup when RO has either run out or im in a rush. Anywho ive been using DI for 3/4 weeks now every day, not that many litres really, maybe 1500 + litres a week.
I get a call today saying windows werent too special, so i go to check out my TDS, its 050, as if just passed through resin and done nothing. I only changed it over a month ago so i cant see what the problem is???
My trusty RO never gives me more than 001 and thats on the go 24/7 all year round. I dont have to change resin for over a year and its only got a litle resin filter on there.
Im either doing something wrong or im very dissapointed in using the DI alone.

You should know better than to assume TDS is fine on 1 DI bottle for 4 weeks. 2 DI's and you wouldn't have had customer complaining as second DI would have ensured TDS was fine. I never get too complacent with everything. Always check everything now and again. Prevention is better than cure.

i had that prob once . in a rush i connected tap water to outlet on di instead of inlet

I do have 2 di cannisters.

It's easy done. I have seen it go from 1 in the morning to 40 in the afternoon. It may not have been that high for long so with a bit of luck not too many of your customners will be affected.

Funny thing is, shes the only one thats said anything. The last house i did was a mega nice big house, so by the time i had got back to van some of the windows were dry and they were spotless so explain that lol

Have a look at both riser tubes, see if they are still perfectly round. Sometimes they get warped and cause problems.

Just a silly question...does i matter which direction the water flows in an out of the di vessel?
Cheers
Dave.

I have wondered this to, but they are marked in and out so must do.

I have 2 vessels, 1 can have flow either way & 1 absolutely can not, it has to go only in one direction!
LWC- Please answer this- do you fill your tank through the DI's at mains pressure/flow? Or do you fill tank directly from tap & filter on demand, i.e. have DI's on van & pump through them?

You do have to have them the right way around or it will not purify correctly. also what flow rate are you putting through the di. if it is too high a flow rate, you will not be allowing the resin to have enough contact time, and again it will not purify the water correctly. Was the resin new, or old? is it possible that the resin has been affected if the bag was not sealed properly if it was an opened bag?

Mains in Mac Mac. I take it from some of the comments this is my problem.

I think the water should perculate through the resin rather than blast a channel through the stuff.

Yes mate, in my experience & many tests of the two methods, the slower the flow though the vessels the greater the resin life & a condiderable longer life too!
Resin brand is also as important but I assume you're using either dowex or tulsion? or at least not purolite?
