today a windower in the next town to me got intouch . apparently he"s a round of 800strong that he was doing with 2 lads .there was a falling out and eachtime he has taken on a new lad since it just hasnt worked.he isnt coping with that gruesome workload on his own ,,,,he has now decided to downsize and reckons if he shed 100 or200 he could cope with the rest alone. he"s offered me the surplus at 5 times the price of a clean.
im one man bander who is as good as full up already and gain about 2 or 3 newbies each week as it is
my dilemma is do i just dismiss it,or take the plunge - my gut feeling is just plod on as i am but thats the safe option
what dyou think?

5x is way too much.
2x or 3x would be going rate, depending on how good the work is of course.
-
I think he is trying to rob you blind mate, no way 5x for a round. Also do your maths, if he thinks he can do 600 on his own, they are either all very small, or he has priced them all very low and need to keep 600 of them for it to be worth while.
Have you asked him what is the likely sales from the customers he wants to sell and also, you will prob be better of sticking where you are than moving into another town to pick up the work, and keep your round compact.
For the price he is wanting you would be better of paying a canvasser, and you will get recently priced work in your area, that suits you for travelling.

its not so much the price, but even if i bought at 2x , would i endup just like him, for what??
does the reality of a big round and extra van and lads working result in happiness?
he said the average price is £10 quid which is normal here. he does them wfp pole . he says he could cope with 600 himself by letting them slide from a monthly clean to a 2monthly or whatever.he was honest enough to tell me he thought having lads work for him didnt work.

in a word no,
i agree with ladder garder keep it compact

it could be worth it if you took it on with a view to simply employ someone to clean. What are the £ values for this work?
-
Grow your own...it sounds as if you are doing good 'as is'.
Cheers
Dave.

Totaly agree
-
He's only gonna get rid of bad work or stuff he's priced too low. No fool gets rid of good work.
If you already near to full why buy another 2-300?
-
i know the numbers would add up , i know he is gagging to sell and is jaded and i probably would be if i was in that position. i havnt read many posts on this forum about health -wealth -and happiness brought on by stepping up to the next stage / think i wont bother ,just stay humble

There are certainly less headaches, and slow growth is stronger than quick growth. However it is difficult to jump to employing unless you have a quick increase in work as well. That's why most will stay one-man and sub a day at a time as they get more work.
-
so at five times for 200 custies at £10 he wants 10k, no chance, you could get much more work locally for that kind of money no problem.

around here work goes for 5x minium, i sold 2 days work last week for 5x,look on the for sale site and Ronnie Pattons after 10x now that is robbery ;D

5x because the work in your area is £2.50 a house

keep it compact build it yourself and leave your hard earned money in the bank ;)

and if you want to grow and expand buying work is a quickfire way to be able to employ without struggling to have enough work for two.
and people do sell good work for all types of reasons iv bought brilliant commercial work that iv now doubled the work load on so that is b0ll0cks.
5x times is not to much for good work not at all people on here under estimate there BUSINESS ignore the 2x or 3x is the going rate has this fool is putting all rounds in the same catagory even if one man can earn 300 a day on one and maybe 100 on the other now were is the sense in that?
-
If your round is full and you're picking up a steady trickle of new work then you don't need to waste your money buying more new work unless yours is really badly priced and his isn't. Trust your gut instinct and do what your mind is telling you feels right.
-
ive mulled it over as iv slogged away today .you lads know how it feels when its been a tough long week . i dont need the aggro of buying another van and finding reliable lads to do th is extra round , hey i dont think id take it EVEN IF HE WAS GIVING IT AWAY ! ;D
-
If you are truly picking up 2-3 new jobs a week and you said your average is ten poumd then surely your picking up 80 -120 a month extra anyway, thats gonna be a grand a month extra by the end of the year, dont sound like you need to bother mate with buying someone elses crud
