Might be my imagination but there apears to be a sudden surge in newbies, trad and wfp - another sign that redundancies are still biting perhaps - or can we blame the Dragon's Den ;D
-
thing is you hear from newbies starting up, but you don't hear of many people leaving the trade, so we only have one side of the coin.

just changing my oil on my vito tonight on my drive and i saw 5 cars with shiny new ladders on top of them in space of an hour
i wonder how many i will see when winter sets in lol ;D
i aint got a problem with them as long as they have the proper insurance and pay there taxes and they dont intentionaly undercut

They certainly do seem to drop off when the cold starts to bite. - No problem for me - I actually like working in bad weather - well to a point anyway!
-
yep they seem to come out of the woodwork in the summer months, and when those cold dark days/nights arrive a lot of them vanish

but in doing so they do us all a favor by getting more custys used to having there windows cleaned when they stop the custys come looking for us :D
-
the only time i would worry about a newbie is if my work wasnt up to a high standard .if im happy with the quality of my work then im sure my customers will be so bring on the newbie ;D

All true. I'm a newbie but I'll still be here through the cold dark winter.........because I used to be a car detailer and used to working outdoors cleaning.......when the water starts to freeze as you're washing a car...........even at 1pm in the afternoon..........and it's dark when you go out and dark when you get in.........and you ache all over after a long day now that you're over 30........and the rest.............. ;D
Works the same with valeting you see, they all think it's an easy game when the sun's shining.
I used to do expensive detailing, 10 years at it, but due to the economy it's now ended. Here's what I used to do -
Click -Ferrari F430 detail (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7298&highlight=)
Click -Saab 3 day swirl repair (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7296&highlight=)

yes you have a point there dave and i am the same thinking as you
however a round i have been doing for nearly 2 years with 100% satisfaction and a 24 hour guarantee i lost 2 custies there last week to a newbie who in some of my other custies words "had a sponge and a shammy" bottom line was the custies i lost were saving £1.50 per week with this new guy
the exuse they gave me was they cannot afford me anymore
its a mobile home site and as they were only little i charged £5 per fortnight this new guy charging £4 a month!!!!
lesson i have learned is you CANNOT rely on any customers they will stab you in the back to save a few quid

Hi Sparrowteeth - you're not the type of newbie that causes problems - you should do well. Good luck

I wonder if we're paranoid about ladders on vehicles, we just notice them more becasue WE aare the ones that are worried, its probably just Ol' Joe doing his mate a favour and taking him a set of ladders round to paint his frames; most of the time anyway.
I dont assume for every set of shiny ladders that its ANOTHER new window cleaner.

I dont worry to much about new shinners.
What gets me are the ones that dont pay tax or insure themselves.
They can keep there prices low and dont care.
Postmen are a clasic or ones that just do it part time.
I wonder how many on this site dont pay taxes.......Maybe the ones who dont say in there profile where they are from....maybe...(await the incoming!) ;D

And that means?
To me it means nothing, he has put he comes from there, but it could be as honest as what the next dole-monkey is saying. Theres no credibility in saying where you are from on here, its not a legal document, it wouldnt stand up in a court of law, its no good saying those who dont fill out there profile are more likely to be dodgy because its meaningless to say that.
Look at my profile, where does it say Im from? Does that mean Im really from Planet La La?
-
You just got ahead of yourself about what it means, whether he's really from there means nothing..
you just said his profile doesn't say where he's from.. It does say

Postmen are a clasic or ones that just do it part time.
The local windy who does my street has been doing wc for 30 years and yet he is still a postie. He knocks off at 12 and is on the windows til 6 with his mrs, he has a massive round which include most of the town centre shops, must be killing him.
