Title: easy care nubuck
Post by: Steve Chapman on August 10, 2009, 10:00:41 pm
off to clean an "easy care nubuck suite on thurs, have cleaned several nubucks and always been a bit

cautious, but the customers recon they were told to clean it with warm soapy water and they said thats

why its easy care, never heard of this myself, and always used a  foaming cleaner,

Any one else had this,   the suite is very very stained hence want to use the most effective method

poss..

Doubt this will be nubuck Steve.  Probably 'alcantara' or a similar fabric equivalent.  Nubuck should not be 'wet' cleaned as this can cause real problems.

Check first with a microscope and if they paid less than £3000.00 then it will probably be a fabric.

I cleaned one today only thing to watch out for is the heat so keep it cool, I used natural orange from restormate as it had some soot on it and hwe and turbo dried, very easy to clean.

Judy is correct it isn't Nubuck it's microfibre.

they paid over £3000 for it and it really did look and feel like the genuine article, quite thick as well, i've cleaned many synthetic ones and can normally tell the difference, and they were adamant it was nubuck!

Did look a very expensive suite, but badly trashed !

Have you done a water test? if it's nubuck it will absorbe a small droplet of water and if it's micro fibre won;t absorb not nearly as fast.

did  the water test while there and sure enough went dark in that patch, just puzzled as they have cleaned it themsleves in one part with warm soapy water and it has come up very well, which doesnt seem to add up.

They kept banging on about the fact that it was "easy care nubuck" as if it was something new,

Will go back with the microscope tomoz and see

Could be protected ut that doesn't last forever on saying that if I had to clean it I would go for a foaming product as it would keep the moisture more ontop and you could use extraction to take out some water and dirt but you will need to realine the pile as soon as you pull the hand tool across.

yeah think i will still use the foaming cleaner, the problem im up against is that it is quite badly stained

on the cushions so think i will have limited success, but rather that, than risk damaging it...

ask them where they purchased it from steve, then either ring the place direct for info or google it, ive tried googling "easy care nubuck" but got nothing, might get better search results if i knew where they got it from.
