Post by: kordun on August 10, 2009, 09:44:53 pm
Hi everyone

We sealed a driveway 2 weeks ago and bit of sand is left on top of driveway. Client now want us to remove this sand which is hard as concrete after sealing. How do we remove sealant to clean this area. Area is very small, Its only few bricks

Xylene is a thinner for the sealants.. Might work.. Also Brick acid might get it off also.. Just be careful if there coloured bricks..

jesus this sounds familiar with people new to sealing.  before you seal you have to be spot on with your sanding and make sure no excess sand is on the face of blocks or too much in joints.  otherwise your liable for comebacks.  sanding is crucial in the sealing process. :-X

how can you seal the drive first before sanding???  thats wrong/  the idea is to seal the sand into the joints so it goes hard so no weeds or grass grows in there. if you seal before sanding your wasting your time and custies money!  :o :o

graffiti removal chemicals will remove the sealant.
I had some dried sealant on my gloves and used some  graffiti wipes for another job and the sealant started to come off the gloves, try it

if you seal with a very light covering the sand ggets into the joints better

so you guys are saying you clean the drive, then go back to seal when dry,  then go back when dry again to sand?  thats 3 trips, and how much labour charge for 3 trips plus materials  :o  :o  :o  thats ridicoulous in my eyes.

the idea of sealing block paving is to seal the joints (ie  bond the fresh kiln dried sand to the sides of the blocks)  which prevents weeds growing.  by sealing first then sanding  you are totally wasting your time as the sand will be soft so there is no benefit. :o

If you did the sanding after sealing a shopping centre the first road sweeper would suck it out  :o
