Title: Power cut - Walk or wait it out?
Post by: Paul Simpson on August 05, 2009, 10:53:57 pm
3 room job today, middle of no where, approx. 40 mile round trip.
Big house on 4 acres of land but the carpet was in a converted outhouse where the daughter lived with her boyfriend.
Half way through 2nd room when the electric popped...........thinking I'd tripped a fuse went looking for the fuse box and sure enough found a fuse tripped, flicked it back and nothing. After some mild panic went looking for the daughter in the main house asked if she had power, "no doesn't appear so, maybe its a power cut" she says, I'll just go and check with the neighbour which happens to be about quarter mile.
Finally she comes back and confirms it is and that sometimes they get 2-3 a week.
Well lets give it 10 minutes to see if it comes back on I say.
15-20 mins later she goes and rings "Mummy" to find out what to do, she in turn rings the power company and is told could be anything upto 2 hours.
Can you come back to finish when the power comes on she asks?
Not really its nearly an hour here and back.
She then rings "Daddy" to find out if & where they have a generator, which they do.
Turns out to be a tiny thing I can pick up with one hand and straight away I'm thinking it isn't gonna work.
Took a while of letting them get upto speed but managed to get the pump and one vac running to finish the job.
Put about an hour on the time it should have taken but not much gratitude for the extra time, effort & running about I had to do.
Some people  >:(

Suppose I left myself open there to T/M'ers.  ::)

Quite right Ability if I got a T/M it wouldn't be a problem and would love to go out and get one, but not quite as simple as that for some of us.......don't have a spare £20K for a new van & T/M.  :'(

Plenty of 2nd hand turnkey rigs out there Paul.  An entry level TM in a Citroen van is up for sale on cleantalk for 4 grand.
