Title: Vanish on carpets
Post by: chosker on July 29, 2009, 03:31:34 pm
Firstly, we do domestic cleaning, not carpet cleaning, however we do sub-contract a few carpet cleans (about1-2 a month so very few).

Right, my main point is - is there a problem with vanish as a product on carpets. I have had someone call today who said she used it completly as instructed and it bleached the area (on a very light cream carpet as well). I am sure someone else has also complained to me in the past - about vanish or 1001, can't remember which and they said that it interfered(?) with "professional" carpet cleaning products.

So 1) are these chemicals bad to use on carpets 2) if so, what is it about them that makes them bad? Is it just bleaching or are there other elements. 3) can anything be done after you have used them to rectify the situation? 4) if a client onle has one small stain, what product would you recommend instead of vanish/1001?

Thanks guys!

Check out National Carpet Cleaning Association ( google it ) on there  they have a section for stain removal in domestic circumstances .That should help you . Yes vanish should be banned from the market , it has a bleaching agent incorporated into the product and should only be used on white carpets.

Tell her to complain to the makers of Vanish.
IF, IF,  she adhered to their instructions then they could be at fault.

I think on Vanish right at the bottom of the label in very small writing though in red it says not for use on wool carpets.

And did she 'test in an inconspicous area first'  as the label says.
