Hi,
I took some interesting photos of a WFP window cleaner today, They are now in my documents file, how do I show them in a post?

Iv'e done that on a couple of jobs when i started out. I have in a previous job, put a ladder on the roof of a van to get that little bit of extra height. ;D

Exactly. New van,Vikan brush, a trigger and a Brodex? fibreglass pole,must be his 1st day on the job.Double yellows, wonder if he got a parking ticket.

driving round in a new van but no poles for this kind of job, surely when you go into wfp you make sure you have a pole at least 35ft.

You say that, but when i started out i didn't know there was different poles, let alone carbon fibre and glass fibre, then i found this forum. I talk to few cleaners who have never heard of CIU. So as somebody has said above, if needs must, as long as he doesn't go dancing around on his roof, he will be ok.

nice one ;D i have never heard of any regulations about using the roof of your van, but surley walking on your van roof must be leaving dents

nevermind standing on the roof using that brodex pole is the biggest danger i can see in the pic.

Hey we've all must be a little guilty of some HSE err's...hey I climb a ladder with a hose in my hand on occassion...and work from roofs without saftey rails...regulary use a ladder without securing it or using a secure footing person, device...it carries on...how's about you?
How's about at least giving him some credit for sin written van, uniform, goodish pole...etc, etc.

i can not believe what i am seeing :o,what is the point of doing them wfp then completely trashing all health and safely regs by standing on the van roof,

Blimey, it's nice to know that everyone on here is squeeky clean and NEVER, EVER break health and Safety guidelines ........ you're all a credit to the job ::)

theres bending guidelines then theres trashing them worst thing you could do stand
on top of a van be better off geting a cheap fishing pole if your hard up;
imagine if you fell or dropt that pole on some one or something ::)

Just got back from my hols and seen this....
Give the bloke a chance...is he hurting anyone,you do-gooders in particular.
I suppose none of you have ever flouted any H&S regs so you could get a job done quicker or easier.....

So it looks like none of you had ever had any problem with your 60ft long pole at the worst possible time. I gave my word to the customer, I`ll do the job next day. Unfortunately the 60ft pole of mine thought otherwise. But I am a reliable window cleaner, so job done. I`m sure some of you just did not even bother to turn up. Was not really dangerous, someone said previously that he had to do it as well. So do not worry about my safety.
Put your hands on your heart and tell me that you never had to improvise a bit....
The idiot who took the picture, should have stopped and ask if he could help me out. Or ask why I do the job this way. That is what I would have done. Instead he took that sneaky picture without telling me, and drove off. That`s his style...:S

You have to admit arsenalhu...it does look a little silly...using a pole for reach and then having to stand ontop of a van for windows that really are not that high.
Ok we all do silly things at times but you got photographed and to be honest you got 'had' hook line and sinker...
Don't blame the chap for taking the photo...look inward.

I would of phoned the customer and explained my situation with pole as there is no way in the world i would be seen standing on top of my van too clean windows, then again if I did have a problem with my pole I would of made calls and sourced one from the local guys, also if I did have a problem with my 60ft I would of just used my 45ft as wouldnt use a 60ft pole on a 3 storey building,

If you dont have the equipment you cant do the job.
Van and roof racks are not mean to be stood on and actually break all wahr, hsawa etc.
No excuses of promising the customer - you could have just told them you couln't do the top level, and would be back to do them. If you had fallen from that van, there could have been children walking past who could have been injured/killed, as it is you are already illegally parked both on a double yellow and mounting the pavement, and the customer would have footed the prosecution bill and potential claims in compensation for any accidents.
Those who say there is nothing wrong you can see why H&S is becoming such a big thing with working practises like this, there are many injuries, and death from stupid working practises, thinking it will only take 5 mins no harm done.. like to see you say that after you have fallen and broke your back and end up paralysed for the rest of your life, or even killed someone - if you want to practise bad working methods, then you will have to ive with yourself.. personally id rather say sorry i cant do that and walk on..
Totally agree with pingu, you have brought this on yourself by practising extremely stupid work methods.
To many people see the green £££ sounds, rather than looking out for not only their own safety but others around them, and how accidents effect others especially the closes to those involved in any accident.
as eclipse said, you look very professional with a nice van, site, uniform, and you have let only yourself and your reputation down by some silly thinking.
