I wouldn't mind getting one, but my bank manager said I couldnt have one until I have had my business account open for 12 months, I think its because my banking is free for the first 18 months lol. so more money to them lol.

Andy I think your running before you can walk mate, this is something you wont need to consid for quite a while, just concentrate on getting your system set up, get them custys then once youve got enough funds coming in etc worry about card payments etc,
As your in the same town andy Ive been turning down some jobs that arent in areas I cover if you want me to pass them onto you then no probs just give me one of your cards when youve got them printed.

There are a few different firms, you have pay for the machine initailly, they take a % of the transaction, pay monthly for the machine(about £20) but you can haggle the price
as chris said your not ready for that yet, maybe in a couple of years, if you have a website you can take card payment via paypal

How about using Paypal - just a thought but most people seem to have PCs these days.
Anyone else using this option?

John I use paypal business, but I would like chip and pin when I go collecting as some of my customers never have and cash on them.
-
I will go with one, when cheque are phased out as apparently this is coming.
Most custies pay via a cheque, or pay by bank transfer. Only ever had 1 custy pay via paypal in over 1.5 years.
I dont go collecting so it would be pointless getting one for that reason, however the larger jobs the custy may prefer to pay via card at the time of completion, and gain card usage points too.

Most of my customers wouldn't know what you are talking about. Average age and all that.

Internet bank transfer for all but 6 of my customers...late payers will always be late payers regardless of what or how they pay....
But I have never left my house to collect...does'nt seem worth the time, effort and costs incurred.
Cheers
Dave.

We use it and for us it is an excellent asset for getting payment, we average about 15% of payments through this system, which if balance your cost as follows:
Collecting - Time, Manpower, Vehicle wear & tear, Fuel,
Cheques - Waiting for payment, banking fees, time doing banking
S/Order - We use it, its excellent and easy to manage
C/Card - Lowers running cost than collecting or Cheques, instant payment.
Most mobiles offer a package for free landline calls, use this package and call your customers.
Just my opinion for what its worth?

i use internet banking a lot now that cheques are on their way out. Once the custy has set it up their end its so easy. Its also clears in 3 days
