Yes you will still need di.  2 11L vessels would probably be best as you can get the most out of the spent resin, however 1 will work fine.

I have a 13l di vessel attatched to my HF5-4040 membrane and is works just fine...

Water in to prefilters 260 - 320 depending.
Water out of prefilers & membrane  5 - 10 depending.
Water out of DI 0.

Water pressure around 50 - 55psi.

Cheers
Dave.

Just a thought - are there any problems with the speed that the water fires through the resin? I just wonder if the water would tend to make a channel through the beeds rather than filtering through?

I wish someone could produce a diagram of exactly how a resin vessel works - does the water pour down the sides of the vessel then up the riser tube or what - can't get my head round it. Look simple enough when you take one apart.

I have found lightly tapping the vessel with a rubber mallet works fine when I fill it...I also use this method to pack my diving rebreather to ensure no channeling..which if occurs could kill me ;D ;D

Cheers
Dave.
