Title: spare key
Post by: colin thomas on July 23, 2009, 05:14:35 pm
my wife has a spare key for her car but it wont open the door when it's locked, it's got the 'open/close' pic on the side of it but does nothing even if you manually use the key, i suppose it would turn the ignition but what good is that if you can't get in?  the thing is i have a spare key for the van also, does that mean that wont open the door either?

May sound silly have you tried both doors.

what about the battery in the fob to unlock / lock if its a fob key.

I assume your battery is not Flat on the actual car sometime locking fails if battery is dead but not on all makes and models

sorry about this but just tried it again and it DOES seem to open the door manually but WONT fire the engine, all the warning lights come on as they do before your start, wipers work etc but the ignition wont fire, must be a dud key eh?  it works fine with the old key, tried the spare 'cos i need it next week,

Phone your local dealer as there might be a reset you can do.

Colin take the good key to Timpsons or another high street key cutter and they can clone the transponder chip in your existing good key only a few quid main dealers charge a small fortune.
