I have looked through archives to find that no one seems to answer the question, is lease hire a good choice?
My window cleaner came round for his money today and I mentioned how well he must be doing driving around in such a nice van. He told me he has it on lease and he's never looked back....
What are the pros and cons then?

depends on the mileageyou are goin to do colin many deals have amile limit on eg 10000a year.

Hi Colin,
With leasing you have to bear in mind knocks and water spillages in the back. I looked into it but was advised otherwise especially with a tm because of possible leak issues.
Probably ok if you run a porty but worth checking the fine print of contract before to see whats acceptable.
All the best,
Jason.

there are lots of different 'leases' I leased my van over 4 yrs, now i own it but I pay £300 a year to the lease company, when I sell it I have to pay 5% of the sale sale price back to the lease company unless I purchase another Iveco van.
I'm thinking of getting a new Merc' on lease 3yrs (12k miles a year) for £360inc the vat, but after the 3yrs I hand it back.

Considering the price of them new Mike, that doesn't sound too bad.
Hand it back after 3 years and just lease another brand new van.
Having brand new gives you that peace of mind that over the next 3 years nothing should break down.

Lease purchase is another option.
You can also get them with balloon repayments. Advantage is that you can taylor your repayments to your cashflow, so as your business gets established you can manage with lower repayments but as the business grows you put the extra away for the balloon repayment.
A further advantage is that you only pay VAT on the monthly repayment thus spreading the VAT costs over the term of the lease.

Colin, outright purchase or part credit maybe good at moment, with interest rates low and garages looking for a new sale.
I have staff in several Peugeot garages contract cleaning, talking to rep other day, they are offering 09 new shape dispatch and boxers from 8999 + vat, think book price is over 14k+ vat, they are pre reg 09 so no mileage , but a few month old.
Contemplating changing mine, once they work out extra discount for me ;)
Andrew
ps told me they have 15 of each and have half left, maybe sales talk !!

Thats a good deal andrew for an almost new vehicle :)
Am too going to upgrade v soon and will buy with cash for the right deal..
Colin andrew is right with the purchase of a vehicle or some on credit.
Also colin once you have bought outright least you will have something to sell if you want to get out of c cleaning..

Clinton, the new Dispatch i was looking at had full metal bulk head, air con and bluetooth, but was 600 extra. Although you can still have standard
Taking my 03 in tonight, see what sort of deal will do.

Clinton, remember if you are paying cash, don't expect to get a better deal.
Dealers make a significant chunk of their profits from selling finance, whether it be hire purchase or leasing options.

Andrew
Thats not a bad spec with the metal bulk head :)Think i was quoted on the basic with scrapage for my van,let us know how you get on ???
Fraiser
dead right on the selling the finance :(
-
Clinton, just got back, unfortunately the rep i wanted to see is off today.
However, they only give basic trade in price, even if yours is in top nick.
Mine is an 03 with 50k mileage, showed me price on comp, only £1350 :(
Suppose they still got to make a schilling (5p to you young guys) ;)
May run it into ground over next 3 years as stands me at nowt now

Too bad that andrew :(
There not giving a lot or used vehicles in px now.
I would maybe run the van for a few more years if it suits your set up size wise maybe..
