Title: Tax deductable?
Post by: ftp on July 19, 2009, 12:26:21 pm
I use my dining room as an office (it gets used once at Christmas for dining in).
Anyway I have bought a beureau for my work and computer. Would this be ok to offset againt my tax? I think it would but I thought i'd ask the experts  ;D

I was told by my accountant that I can claim for 20% of heating and electricity bills.
I use a small 3rd bedroom for my office with a seperate phone line.

Depends though if it's tax or expenses we are on about...so far as tax goes, you should be able to quite easily claim some or all of the allowance for cleaning and maintaince. One of the ladies I work for gets tax allowance against something like 30% of the work she pays me to do, because the cleaning of her hall, stairs, landing, study, and guest cloackroom all get used in the course of her working day.

Got to be 100% usage or the tax man will not let you claim.

If they do a spot check you will not get away with it.

However I cant see them paying a visit on xmas day!! ;D
