Anyone out there use one?
How reliable are they?
Just been looking for vans, I had in my mind a peugeot expert or citreon dispatch, but looking at the scudo its about the same size and has about the same payload.

Hi Matt,
Been in the same situation for the last few weeks, looking for a van. Was intending to get the dispatch, expert or scudo......but the older version maybe 51,52, 53 plate etc....., but ended up deciding it may be a little too small if I wanted to expand bigger at a later date. It seems to be a minefield with vans to find a decent one with relatively low mileage...and a good price. Have finally decided on a peugeot boxer 2.0hdi with only 50,000 miles on it, so quite pleased on a 53 plate. Guy has only used it to transport his scramble bike..........apparently ;). All the others were either bumped dented or excessive mileage. The idea of an expert was my first port of call, but although it may be a struggle parking I liked the idea of the extra room in the boxer and it still has the 3 seats................oh and it also has a 3 bar roof rack which is about £100-£150 quid. Paying £2500 for the boxer. Know its not much advice for you Matt but just thought I would let you know the course I took and why.
I would preferably have liked to get the new expert/dispatch as they seem a good compromise between the old size and a larger panel van...........but unfortunately funds won't stretch to a newer one at the moment..... :( :(
cheers
Fieldsy

I know what you mean mate.
I can only afford £1,500 max at the moment.
I'm looking at getting a gutter-vac and pressure washer, I wouldn't be able to get those in the Escort van, plus the extra weight would put it well over the payload.
-
them 3 are all same vans so not much confusion
-
I notice the Scudo's are alot cheaper than the other 2, is it because they haven't got all the extras like electric windows, A/C, CD stereo etc?
-
I was the same with the boxer, relay and ducato. I couldn't find a decent boxer........so was goinf to opt for the relay which has a cassette player and no cd.............have found a boxer which has cd player as standard...( i like my gadgets..lol). Managed to get an LX model which has electric everything. So they all must have slight spec differences. :(
-
I'm not keen on a lot of electrics, more things to go wrong. ;D
-
My dad's got one of the new scudo's and he reckons it brilliant. 2 years in and he's not had a single problem,... and he does a fair bit of mileage too.

Ok then, what about a flintstones car...lol
-
;D ;D
-
Ive got a scudo, had it nearly 3 years now....38k on the clock, weakness are the locks!!!
all of a sudden you cant get ya key in!...my drivers door has it....apart from that, never let me down..a good work horse, i would get another. ;)

Mick could you have a 650ltr tank in the bank, along with gutter-vac and pressure washer?
-
well i got 650l tank in back of mine easy along with hose di vessel trad gear and yes you could esay get gutter vac and other bits in there loads of room in them a good middle of the road van
-
Thanks Ian.

Ian, dont waste money on a cheap van, get yourself a trailer with a high mesh kit and cover and use that for your pressure washing and gutter cleaning kit.
less than £200 to get a tow bar pro fitted on an escort and approx £550 for the trailer, no increase in insurance either :D and you can carry extra weight.
You only need to take it with you when you need it.
When you have the money you can spend it on a newer van that you will appreciate more and last longer AND have a trailer to use when you need it!

Mick could you have a 650ltr tank in the bank, along with gutter-vac and pressure washer?
I would say no, ive got a 450 in mine, but if you got the 2.0 model, you can put a 650 in it, and yes there would be enough room.....as for the gutter gear and pressure washer,....no.

well we have other pointless threads nothing related to window cleaning that dont get locked, so i cant see any difference.
Ive always said this, that moderators do not do enough moderating (or there is not enough moderators), but since these threads always go un moderated, we might as well join in regardless.

Are vans not a main asset of a window cleaner?
I was under the impression that this section was actually called window cleaning issues.
I am a window cleaner with an issue of what vans are good enough for room and payload etc.
So all in all it is related to window cleaning.
It is no different to asking which pole should I get.

Reading this thread with great interest because the thoughts that fieldsy expressed are mine too and this is very much a window cleaner related topic.
I have a scudo 900kg with 650, but now feel torn between new scudo at 1200kg to work with three men or a ducato.
I choose ducato and scudo because they are cheaper and my old ducato (different business) i have had from new for nine years with no problems.
Scudos have two side doors which i like and are easier to park, ducato's get everything in but are big on drives....
What are other peoples thoughts?

SWB Ducato would be ok for backing on and off peoples drives i would of thought? Nice size as well.
-
I know it may sound like I want the best of both worlds, but whats the MPG of a Ducato?
I know the likes of Transits and Iveco Daily's only do about 20mpg.
-
My nine year old ducato van is brilliant about thirty or more i think with a 1.9 engine. I think you are more likely to pick up a good banger as a ducato than any other.
In your shoes i would use the 1500 as a deposite on something newer. But this depends on your circs, i guess like the rest of us you haven't got any choice but to make the window cleaning work.If you fail there are no jobs to go to so on that basis, the basis that you will succeed, get a better van that looks pro on peoples drives.
easy for me to say i know.

Slump, I am shrewd when it comes to this sort of thing, I wont buy a rusty old bucket, just try to catch a bargain.
Saw a Scudo X reg 102K 1.9 TD very tidy only £900
-
i hear u want to stay clear of the 1.9. I test drove a 1.9 berlingo (am i right in thinking they use similar engines?) it was empty and i struggled to get it to 50 - 60mph!!
