Title: How to bring faded dark brown upvc back to life ?
Post by: Blue Frog Systems on July 14, 2009, 10:12:56 pm
My wife has been out today getting me jobs bless her.

She got me a job and the woman asked if I knew how to get dark brown upvc window frames back to life (there faded, but I don't know how bad).

Is there a way of making them like new again? If they were white I would use the good old doKtor power from JML as I use with all my white upvc cleaning, but never come across a brown clean.

Any help appreciated

I've been told to use either a silicon spray or WD40 and a rag.

I have tried the WD40 my gutter its black and it does work.
Dont spray it onto the gutter spray it on a cloth then wipe it over.

Yes, WD40 works very well, i use it mainly when im doing woodgrain conservatories. Just spray it on a terry towel type cloth, and give the frames a good wipe/hard rub over.

i thought about using wd40 to, but i was not sure if next time i wfp it, that any residue would come of on to the glass when cleaning it, and leaving some sort of film on it,

I see your point Jouk, I haven't used them on frames on the guttering.

I wouldnt either, but you could try UPVC solvent cleaner. then give it a thorough rinse after.

Using wfp afterwards has been perfectly fine. Just make sure you spray the cloth and not the frames as you soak the glass. Next time you go back 4-8 weeks later they have weathered anyway.  :)

Fitted and cleaned plenty of these brown upvc frames have always just cleaned with a damp cloth, can use upvc cream cleaner with light rubbing, dont use upvc solvents as the frame will end up white.Brown upvc frames like all are built on white upvc (unless solid wood).Phone your local Eurocell they will tell you more.Cheers

dont use solvant cleaner on woodgrain frames it turns them white and melts the woodgrain tape wd40 is good on it and also good at getting stains off anything else as well
