Title: Green gunge. Advice please.
Post by: sparklebright on July 14, 2009, 09:37:34 am
Have just starting cleaning out my storage tanks in the garden (2 x 1000ltr IBCs) and two things.
1. I have had the same Hippo pump for 6 years, how reliable is that.
2. I have a layer of green gunge, obviously I need to provide a bit more shade!

I have scrubbed with my autobrush will now empty it but I cannot have got all the spores so it will come back unless I treat it I think.
Am I right in thinking some of you guys have used Milton tablets to clear this out?

Milton liquid would be best mate.
but I would certainly look at covering the tanks with black plastic.
if that doesnt work try very hot water, just enough to cover the algea then rinse with pure water.

you will need a bleach substance to kill the spores.

Milton is a mild bleach sanitiser.

Dont forget to rinse well afterwards

Thanks for that, interestingly, the gunge has never affected the TDS readings, I guess that's because it's stuck to the sides...
