I went to a job today where customer had spilled dilute lime cordial on wool carpet, they first cleaned it with soapy water and they thought all was well, but the following day the stain had turned a deep orange then they tried to clean with vanish mousse !! also rubbed pile to the point of damaging it (like pilling bobbles on a jumper).
I guessed it would not come out but I tried anyway, stain pro then ff rinse - no joy.
then tried red rx damp terry towel and hot iron method followed by rinse - again no joy.
I told customer stain could not be removed as I'd expected this may be the case so I did not charge. He wanted to give me some cash, but instead I asked if he'd pass on some business cards.
Do you think there was anything else I could have tried to remove this stain ?

Sodium Met as a last resort.
Should also have discussed whether he was going to claim on his insurance. If so then you could have provided the written report.(And charged for it.)
If he's claiming under his insurance then the costs of you trying to remove the stain (and also for any report you write) would also become part of his claim-the only thing he would then be out of pocket for would be his excess on his policy.
You should have been upfront before trying to remove the stain that it would cost him anyway. Done right he'd have paid you and still recommended you to friends because of your professionalism.
(You wouldn't find a vet, for example, saying "sorry , Mr Customer, I tried my best but your pet still died, so despite using my drugs and skills I'm not going to bill you". Would you?
