RO and Di arrived today from pure freedom, read the instructions, connected up, flushed for 2 hours like it said without Di then connected Di. Water at the tap is 385 ppm water in holding tank is 407 ppm????????????? im baffed
-
Post a pic, including all the pipes,..

ok mate will do tomor, too dark now
-
You did put the filters & membrane in right?
-
the RO was allready set up i didnt have to put any cartriges in or any membrains, the instuctions were very simple, connect to the inlet, switch to flow setting to flush for two hours without the di, then after the two hours connect the di set the little tap to non flow setting and fill
-
its weired because the tds hand held metre which is brand new from pure freedom first of all gave me a reading of 54 then like 76 then 115 then 250 odd then 300 odd then 400 odd. Im wondering if the tds meter is faulty because it can tell you half a dozen differant readings from the same cup of water, this can range from say 250 to 385 all in a matter of seconds?????????
-
Trippy you can buy calibration fluid to check the TDS meters.
-
Sounds like the waste is filling your tank and not the pure. That's the only way you can get a higher tds than the supply surely?
Measure the tds coming out of your present waste outlet.
-
just checked the waste its reading 64?????????
-
what colour hose do you have going into the tank?
-

hope your tank is as baffled as you :D :D :D :D :D :D
-
are you using the water that comes out of the hose with the flush tap? that's the waste pipe,..... :)
-
what colour hose do you have going into the tank?
the hose is blue
-
What colour hoses do you have?
I have a white hose going from the DI vessel into the tank, Blue going from the outlet from the RO into the DI and a Red one for the waste.
-
will re check it all again in the morn, been a bad start because my new trolley arrived 2 days ago and that thing refuses to charge now this, never mind it will all come out in the wash lol
-

thats what i have too mate, exactley as you have, the water the comes out the di comes out very fast the waste which is red only dribbles out
-
Sounds to me you have then the wrong way around and your chucking the good stuff down the drain, be aware of the flush tap as that can also be confusing
-

if i had it the wrong way around then it would mean something like 95% waste to 5% pure. As i have it set up now the water comming out the di is fast and with plenty of flow as opposed to the waste which only trickles out
-
your waste water should be running much faster than your production water trippy
-
is the tap for the waste running parallel to the hose? if it is then its on flush.
I've sent you an email trippy.
-

I've sent you an email trippy.
cheers for the email matt, the only time the tap was inline with the hose is when i done the intital 2 hour flush, then i turned the tap upright after the flush to resume normal use
-
I would shut it all down untill the morning because the stuff in the tank will need chucking and you could be wasting your resin too if you have it connected all wrong.
-
I think you might have confused the flushing that is necessary for 1st time use?
The 1st time flush is having the tap switched in an upright position and running for hour or so. This is before it is connecting to the di vessel. Throw this water away.
Check the tds after doing this.
What size ro have you got and do you have a booster pump?
I suspect your 95% waste to pure isn't really that high, but is probably how it should be without a booster pump.
The maintenance flush is flushing with the tap horizontal to the pipe.

yeah the tap was horizontal to the pipe, in the flow position in accordance with the diagram in the instructions

Yes thats a maintenance flush.
You also need to run the ro a discard the 1st couple of hours of 'pure' water.

So now if i run it for a few hours on ro and di the tds will eventualy come down to 00?
-
You will only get 0 after the di vessel.
What size ro do you have and do you have a booster pump?
-
its 200 gpd no booster pump but mains pressure around here is quite strong
-
That's alright then. You should/will get 0 tds soon enough.
It sounds like the colours of your pipes are mixed up, but it don't matter. It is easy to work out.
1. Produce 'pure' water for an hour or so (without connecting to the DI vessel)
2. Check the tds from both the waste pipe and the pipe producing pure water.
The lower tds will be your 'pure' water outlet.
After an hour or so of production the lower tds should come down to well under 30 if you have good water pressure. And probably nearer 10.
I think that will do it. Good luck.
-
thanks for your help mate i appreciate it
-
Trippy try taking the reading from the hose that goes into the DI vessel it should read between 10-35ppm, my tap water has a TDS of 256 and when it goes through the RO it comes down to 12 then after the DI its 000.
Before filling it up next time I would strongly suggest changing the resin in the DI vessel.
-
Heres some pics, look at the instructions you can clearly see they say the waste is red hose is red and the blue is for the pure, but the tds of the red is now 10, thats going through the di too
-
having a rough time, the pics wont load because their too big grrrrrrrrrrrr
-
Trippy email me the pics mate.
the pics are probably too big.
-
Really getting fed up now, i rang pure freedom before lunch and the fela i spoke to said he would get someone to ring me, waited for over two hours no phone call so decided to ring them up again about 2pm the fella i spoke to seemed baffled when i told him the problem,he asked me to email him some pics which is what i did, still aint heared anything from them. Also when i first bought the ro off them from ebay on buy it now they forgot to send it to me, again i had to chase them. Think i will just box it up and send it back to them and get my money back
-
I think I can see the problem trippy!!
-
look at the pic, the top membrane cannister has 2 outlets with hoses. your waste hose is coming out of the top outlet, my waste comes out of the bottom one. try changing these over and then take another reading.
-
Trippy I have just sent you an email that i have highlighted, the hoses need changing over as the waste hose is actually got good water flowing through it and the processed hose has got the waste flowing through it.
-
Matt your definetly right yours in on the bottom mine is top, ive now swapped them around and now the water coming out of the red is reading 700 odd and the pipe going to the tank is 35, so looks like we could be on the right track, ine disconted the di for the time being im gonna flush it for two hours
-
Trippy change the resin in the DI vessel mate as it will be knackered now.
-
Happy days are here again ;D
-
Well someone at the factory was'nt doing their job right lol, Matt do you think i need a resin change on the di now? Seems a costly shame if so seeing it was'nt my fault
-
Did you buy the 25kg bag? the 10inch vessel doesnt use that much at all mate.
I have a 25kg bag and been told that about a 3rd of it will go off before I get to use it lol.
-
what size bag do you think i need to buy mate?
-
Just buy the 5kg bag mate that will last ages, I change my resin every 2-3weeks, the DI vessel only has a capacity of 700ml.
-
jubbly mate, thanks so much for your help, im now stress free lol
-
Thats ok mate, other guys helped me out when I first started with WFP.
-
Matts right, but you could buy the 10 inch cannister from Purefreedom for a tenner which is full of resin.
When i started i got a load of resin and 6 months down the line when reading was higher on TDS i changed it and all the resin had gone off, so bought a cannister for £10............................................... Thats if they remember to send you it! :o
My set up on pipes is
Red ......waste
Blue......RO to DI
White.....Pure water
Not that it matters which colours you use as long as youve got them in right place!
-
one other thing mate, where can i buy a fitting to go on the red waste hose so i can get it on to a garden hose, my nearest drain is about 6 meters away so need to do it with garden hose
-
Trippy ask Alex Gardiner at Gardiner products, he told me about the fitting as I wanted one from my DI to tank.
-
Try googling 'John Guest' fittings, i think thats what there called ;)
-
no idea the size of the ro waste hose
-
you have to unscrew the fittings, I think the fittings are 1/4 inch.
-
think i might see what alex gardenier comes up with, anyone know how i can contact him? or should i just post FAO of Alex Garndenier on here?
-
post FAO of Alex Gardiner mate, he should be on later.
-
Ive never been in a job or a business before where there are so many kind helpful souls as there are on this forum, love ya all mwahzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz lol
-
hee hee I'm glad my tap water comes out at 44tds ;D all this RO stuff seems like to much work ::)
-

hi trippy
can you just put waste pipe into your garden hose and let it gravity feed to drain
just a thought :)
-

on the downside you have to watch the SPL ;D ;D ;D

The easiest thing to do is to extend the length of your waste pipe. To do this add a 1/4" to 1/4" John Guest connector as below:
and then add on another length of 1/4" John Guest pipe.
-
I'm glad you got your problem sorted. I also had difficulties when I first got my RO and this forum helped me. Mine was a little simpler, just a loose hose into the RO.
However, I thought I would just add that my RO unit has a RED pure pipe and a BLUE waste pipe. Thankfully I took TDS readings from both and rang Pure Freedom just to verify. They said they hadn't known of such a case but after reading this thread I can confirm it can happen.
Hope your luck gets better mate.

been on the john guest website and looked at all their 1/4 fittings but cant seem to find this one :(

Third one down.

Nice one Alex
-
Alex do you supply backpacks?
-
Not at the moment.....
-
Alex how much do your 18ft glass fibre poles start from?
Just looking around as I'll need one to fit to the backpack.
-
Trippy you sound happier now. Is it all sorted now? Are you producing pure water yet? What is your lowest tds now? Keep checking it before the di cos if your water pressure is very good you should be getting nearer 10 ppm before the water goes through the di.
I'm just being nosey really. :P
As said replace the di resin. Also worth buying is another of those 10 inch cannisters and running 2 in tandem. That will guarantee 0 tds. Whereas i reckon it will be 1 or 2 ppm like mine is most of the time.
Once all is set up and working properly it is best to run the RO without connecting to the di vessel for a couple of minutes beforehand. That will squeeze every last bit of resin use out of it all.

About £97 + vat (including hose and brush)

sorry to hijack this but if you're getting around 18ft, the 17ft xtel is very light and comes with a very short closed length.
The best fibreglass pole out there for domestics in my opinion.
-
'I mentioned john guest', .................i dont think anyones listening to me, I,m off to bed in the huff ;D

That's the one I was talking about!
-
Alex what brush does the pole come with?
-
On the website you can select one of up to 7 different brushes. The price I quoted was for a Vikan flocked rectangular.
-
Looking at Alex's price that will be for one of the Vikan brushes, 8mm hose with a nylon connector, with a plastic gooseneck and then the pole. Have a look on his website if you want the prices of the other options (like I did :o)

Alex do you supply 4 jet brushes?
-
Yes, by ringing the Office. Might be best to email me these questions on alex@agardiner.co.uk.
