do you issue a fire certificate when applying fire retardent ? if so where do you accuire such a thing.
The reason I ask is, I am in the process of recovering some bench seating at a club, the material is grade 5 and passes every test thats laid down for a public place, a fire certificate was issued along with the material when purchased, and it reads like a book ::), how ever 1 thing ic concerning me slightly , I intend to apply retardent to the foam seating, and was wondering if a seperate certificate was needed !

You can't issue a certificate. That requires that the maerial treated is subjected to the specified tests.
All you are able to do is issue a statement that the articles have been treated with such and such product which complies to BS such and such.
Done this for years for Newcastle breweries and it satisfied them.

Tks John,
So what you are infact saying is a statment saying the inner has been treated, along with the actual material certificate will suffice.
ahh well thats just made my life a little easier :D

Arrr got ya, how much would i charge if i was to do it.

I wouldn't use the term fireproofing.
Apply fire retardant treatment would be best I reckon.
-
Geoff, its the surface material which is treated. Fire retardents are basically a salt saturated solution (not table salt) as the moisture evaporates the salts are left behind in the fibres and it is this that prevents flame spread. You issue a letter stating that the upholstery or whatever has been treated with ........... which complies with BS................ (details are on the product data sheet)

if my memory serves me correct there was an interesting thread back earlier in the year about this topic think it was about treating curtains and issuing the certificates after the testing had been carried out.

yep i think i made a post on it. search function might help out :)
