Title: Inside Vacuum
Post by: Adam Fearnley on July 01, 2009, 10:05:21 pm
Does anyone know how to remove the cover of a vacuum motor to get to the turbine blades??  I took on some water through my motors, so just want to check them out.

Try a hammer and chisel and tap it gently all the way around. Ive done a few but the first one is always the hardest

If you happen to take some water through the vac's don't worry too much if they still are working squirt some wd through vac pipe when you have finished and run for ten mins all should be ok good practice to run vacs at end of work to keep them sweet.

Where you based?

My mechanic/engineer does this as standard as part of the service he gives me testing for insulation/ amp draw/cable checks/brush cleans etc.

There's quite a few guys on here who use him if you're based anywhere in the north-west. Aves you down time sending your machine back to the likes of Ashbys/Prochem etc.

A bit of water through should not present too many problems as long as the motor did not stop and flood. You would know then as it would probably fuse or blow the windings.

The main thing is to keep the filter gauze clean and in good repair. Any holes will let fluff through and that will do more harm than a bit of water.

As said above it is a good idea to run the vacs with the tank open to dry out the turbines at the end of the day.

Did a job today, turned the vacs on but forgot to put cap on waste pipe so machine starting wobbling abit with water full.  Started up again then minute later the whir of motors started to whine down then thers smoke coming out :o,  I thort thats it, but waited a minute, turned them on and they worked fine for rest of job.

Was it another intake of water or what? Are the chinese motors supposed to be cheap because i've got two in mine.
