Title: Hot water better than cold?
Post by: ftp on June 28, 2009, 08:38:43 pm
Just a thought - some time ago someone on here had a hot water system and was saying they ran it at around fifteen degrees I believe (I may be a few degrees out), anyway the point i'm making is that with this hot weather we are all possibly running our cold systems close to twenty degrees plus the heat of the glass. have you noticed a vast improvement in your cleaning?
I haven't - baked on bird poo is still a nightmare, first cleans are still just as hard, spiders poo doesn't shift, cob webs don't melt and snail trails are just as difficult to shift - same as any other time of year.  ???

not a valid comparison ftp, the bird poo is drier and baked on more.

sorry if this is the same old drivel from the usual suspects, glad that you are back so that i can raise my game a bit and discuss bird poo with you.

Brilliant and dynamic thread topic by the way. Sure to hit over 500 views in about 5 hours as joe's did.

I run mine at that temp and yes you do green con roofs and filthy green cladding and it melts away with hardly any brushing,as for someone earlier saying about bird muck not shifting try using water at about 60-70 degrees and then see what you think. We know cold still cleans these things but not as easy as hot water does by a long way.

NWH with hot do you have any precautions during the colder weather?
I know putting hot fluids on cold glass could cause the glass to crack and break.
Plus what is it like on the rubber gaskets on the windows does it affect them in the long term?
Just a couple of questions as I will be looking at getting a hot add-on in October/November.

For the last 2 winters i have used hot water and the last winter just gone i have used a proper add on system which heats the water to about 70 degrees,i have an adjuster at the side of the unit which allows cold water in to cold it down when required. At first i used to run it cooler on some really cold mornings but after experimenting i found that unless the windows were in very shaded areas of the job and it was bitterly cold i could use it flat out hot with no trouble with cracking windows, you have to watch old thin glass but apart from that i use it flat out hot to clean all winter. After about 9am you`ll end up feeling confident about using it as hot as you like.

Ahhh, you are thinking i'm having a go at hot users?
Well I'm not believe it or not. There was a post from someone and I can't remember who, who ran their system at those low temperatures. Of course if you are way above twenty degrees it will clean better.

No not thinking your having a go, but if you have a hot system, why would you run it at  such low temps?
