I've just been asked to remove some chewing gum along with a few other things. I can get hold of a steamer, but how do I go about pricing the job?
I need to get thequote in soonish.
Any ideas?
price per metre?
Thanks guys

Anyone?

I count the number of pieces in 3 seperate mtr square areas to give the average number of pieces per square mtr, times that by the total area to give the total pieces. The time taken by my osprey is about 12 - 15 secs so you times that by the total area to give the time for the job - times that by your rate
-
ok so 12- 15 seconds per piece of gum eh?
How about chemicals?how much will i need per metre and how much are they?
I use a cold pressure washer at the mo for my usual stuff, but i asume i will need a steam cleaner, is that right?
-
I'm on cold but to do gum you need heat - a hot box is about £k. I have an old osprey m/c with the chemical injection which can be used on a generator with punters about

Been to look at it and it is bad chewing gummed!
We're looking at 40 pieces per metre on average.
So 15 secs per piece = 1 metre every 10 mins - 6 metres per hour
ive got about 1,000 m2 to clean. - so that will be 166 hours! What is a fair amount to charge for this? £20 or £50. I dont want to sell myself short incase it takes longer than i thought
-
£2.00 - £2.50 a sq metre according to trevor perry.
-
thats cheap isnt it?
that will work out at £12 an hour
-
£35 - £40 per hour + Vat minimum for this kind of work. You've fuel & maintenance costs on top of your normal expenses remember.
-
thats better! thats what i was thinking!
If we're talking of about 40 pieces per metre, how many metres would you be able to do in one hour?
-
would 6 metres an hour be about right?
-
well most people charge around 40 to 50 quid an hour for just jet washing so would it not be more for gum removal?
-
i was just wondering if 6 metres an hour would be concidered slow?
-
If its that bad I would'nt look at doing it with the steamer but it depends if you can shut areas down, water supply, drainage etc. You need to employ someone thats keen but with a very small mind

Ive got a very nice friend whos letting me use his hot washer for next to nothing. So i'll be using that. the chewing gum is on tarmac(good condition) so I have been told steam is not a good idea.
I will have someone with me scraping, sweeping and bagging the gum. Also, I will be doing a couple of night shifts to get the main areas done when there will be noone around and coning off other areas in the day - this is no problem.
M-Clean - Is it likely to do 6 metres an hour or 16 metres an hour with this set up?
-
on tarmac you need to turn the pressure right down but still have plenty of heat if i was you i would tell them you will do a trial area then work your price out from the time it takes you, depending on surface i can remove between 15 to 25 peices of gum a minute with my set up but if your going to tackle it with a steamer then you willbe lucky to be doing 6 pieces a minute.

Do you use a hot box and pressure washer?
I have to submit my quote this afternoon. They only gave me one day to price it all!
I dont want to sell myself short, but I would like to get the job.

Hi Richy,
If you want me to have a look at the job for some advice with you, give me a ring 07900 800 315.
We've got hot washers and dedicated chewing gum steamers available too, no probs.
Cheers,
Huw.

what pressure washers do you use seerclean? i love your website. ;)
-
Hi,
Our main one at the moment is a Karcher HDS 13/24 PE Cage. Diesel burner, petrol engine. Never let us down and been a great step up from smaller portable machines.
Thought there was a pic on the website, will have to update.
Cheers, drive surgeon, spent a lot of time on it over the years, but I still need to add lots more to some unfinished pages. We also have about fifty smaller sites floating around the net too!
Cheers,
Huw
-
is that a hot washer?
-
yes
-
thanks seerclean just out of interest how much did you pay>
-
Hi Huw,
Cheers,
Have you been asked to quote for a similar job? To be carried out in August?
My friend owns SE Cleaning Services and does a lot with Crystal Clear. He reccommended that I use a hot washer instead of his steamer as it is all on tarmac.
Would you agree with that?
-
Hi richy,
I don't think we're quoting on that as far as I know. Without seeing it its hard to price really.
Cheers,
Huw

Ive submitted my price now. So it's just wait and see.
Let's hope I get it! :)
