Title: Massage oil on carpet
Post by: benny d on June 18, 2009, 12:11:23 pm
Hi,
Going to try and remove massage oil from a carpet this afternoon. A dog got hold of the bottle, so not sure how much there is to do.
I will use my upholstery wand so I can get close.
I think it should be ok, but is there anything specific for me to try on the stain?

Had some success with oil in the past using Ultrapac renovate although it was "3 in 1" oil.

Was it a dog of the four legged variety with a tail or an old dog of the two legged and female variety?

Try massaging it out ;D ;D ;D ;D

Just kidding.

If the carpet is wool/wool rich then is should be a much easier job than if it's synthetic.

A stain absorbing powder to finish off with might be a good idea.

Flag up to customer that there may be occasion to have to come back in a few weeks/months time to clean up any residual which has become apparent. Explaining this may happen (after all you won't be able to see if you have completely removed all the oil) makes it easier to ask for the call-back fee (always less than a call-out fee) and makes you look more intelligent as you explain why there is a possibility of it happening rather than trying to make excuses when they call you back because a residue has wicked back.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

It wasnt as bad as it sounded. ( As is mostly the case)
Citrus gel, agitate, TM, cleaning wand, and crossing of fingers, and all came out  ;)

Huge house, thinks the carpet looks good, as she says she vaccumes twice a week, My arse!

Still didnt see the value of having her year old carpets cleaned throughout properly, but I tried  >:(

Should get 10 out of 10 on Checkatrade for this one, but probably wont, bound to find something wrong!
All the best.
