anyone know the tax allowance position on buying a secondhand car, used for work plus privately?

you can claim 40p a mile

40p a mile, I didn't know that! I've been claiming half of all running costs up till now.. must look into this!
The question was about purchase of the car tho

40p for the first 10k
25p for any after that

thanks, does this include travelling to work from home, or just travelling whilst at work?

When I started out I used a 405 estate and my accountant claimed 3/4 of the cost of the running of my car for business.
It would be best to talk to an accountant.

you can either keep a record and work out your % split between personal and biz use

OR

40p a mile


most accountants will advise you on the 40p a mile
