well, my van is dead!
anyone know where one can buy a new van at a snip and get finance that wont delve to deep in to my income?
recommendations for what to get?

I don't know about specifics but would you qualify for that 2 grand off scheme for scrapping a vehicle? Not sure how relevant that is though as in the current recession, you might be able to negotiate that anyway.
Vivaro/Trafic/Primastar might be OK if you want to resell within 3-4 years as they have gearbox issues. Toyota do a reliable van (Hiace?).

I've looked around not touching any thing french!!
There is however a Toyota hiace in the pipe line not new but good history. i want AS MUCH feed back on these as i can get so please tell all and be as honest as you can guys.

I would'nt buy anything from auctions,go to a dealership and get finance,at least you will have a comeback if anything goes wrong or even better get one on lease.

I can recommend the hiace i have an 03 280 swb, little slow but goes & goes. Running costs have been very low & you get the japanese reliability. I have had this vehicle from new & its still got a lot left in it, wfp.

Thing about auctions is most of the vehicles are ex lease, thus theyve been serviced regularly and arent more than 3 years old.
Theyre just being traded in for another vehicle by the previous owner.

i may up going down this route, the vans and cars are just so much cheaper over there!! and even more so at auction

if you go to a dealership you pay through the nose, most van dealers get there vans from an auction in the first place. just get one with fsh, transits are a good van

I went to a dealership and got a 05 Transit T280 for under six grand,34000 miles and I don't think I was stung,I will admit they buy in bulk from auctions but I have a 3 year warranty and is something I can fall back on,I only keep my vans for that long anyway before I get another one,I have always got my vans from Leatherhead Commercials and always will.

I got 1 from Leatherhead commercials years back and it was a joke,the van was yellow but he said he would spray it white for me and i wouldn`t notice any difference from a new van,what a laugh that was.When he delivered the van the paint job was so bad you could litterally scrape the paint off with your nail,never again if you can stretch to it go for new or nearly new don`t buy someone elses thrashed rubbish that`s why these old vans are on the forecourts with 60-70000+ miles they`ve had there day,there nothing short of van graveyards.

I'm after reliability more than a bargain. the van that has just died on me was a bargain or so i thought.
My wife says she would much rather me by new and have the 3 year warranty. I've been to ford garage and really like the look of a new transit connect high top LWB. so unless i get this hiace at a total snip i'm hopefully gonna get one of them. any one got 1? are they a good van to use wfp? hoping to get a 600ltr tank in it.

Hi we had a lwb transit connect great van it had a 500ltr tank in it.Personally i wouldnt put a 600 in one for the weight. also it wont hande very well-it slops. If your getting a new van get a 3 seater van. How much is it new from the dealer.

Citroen dispatch is a good alternative and has a better payload.

I never had problems with them,looked at Leatherhead Commercials first and then around the whole south east before I decided on getting one from them,the maximum milage on their vans maybe 40,000 miles as for yellow vans they always did a choice of colours,why not just get a white van in the first place! ???
But like you say if you can afford one get one new or almost new.

Citroen dispatch is a good alternative and has a better payload.
the Citroen dispach is a bit more exspencive its also french and i'd rather not buy french

And I wouldn't fancy any of them really :-\
We use Transit vans and can't fault them to be honest. Not super quick, not ours anyway, but plenty of room inside for wfp, hoovers and, more importantly, fishing gear ;)

thats what i thought but i was informed the van, suspension are the same but they all have there own engines and gear boxes much like the vauxhall, Renault and Nissan versions of the vivaro.
the vauxhall vivaro is known to be a good reliable van but the renault version has the reputation of being unreliable and an awful gear box.
