Title: video production
Post by: Mike Halliday on June 09, 2009, 09:47:43 am
I'm having preliminary  talks with a professional video production company with regard hiring them for a day.

the day would be divided into times slots and each time slot will be available to anyone to make a short video  on any subject.

this video would then then be edited & produced by the company then presented to each person in any format they require.

so Far a fee of £1200 has been suggested by the company, this is based on 1 days filming & 2 days editing. This would be equally divided between everyone taking part. I have suggested 10 people and the film company had said this is achievable in a day..

so the cost would be £120 for the filming & editing.

the only additional cost would be for a 'set' I'm thinking of hiring a local Hotel conference room.

but before I go any further I need to know if 10 people are interested.

so anyone interested?.

ps: it would take place in either Hull, east yorkshire or M62 east corridor

Derek's is a good home made video, the company I'm propose to use does promotional videos  for major corporations and work that appears on the BBC. its will look professional (and we will be able to talk ;) )

if anyone want to go dereks route then OK but this is an opportunity to do something that will look the real deal.

the time of the event would be to fit with the film company, i think they will need at least 4-6 weeks notice so we are looking at early August.

the easiest venue for me to organise would be something local to me, so it would be in the HU post code area Google it to see where I mean but its east yorkshire.

Hi Mike

I would be interested, but I would need to know more details:

How long a video per person - so we know what script we can fit in or how long a cleaning demo.
Final cost per person including event as I would also have to factor in fuel costs and overnight stay.
Is the final product something that could be embedded in a website and can we make multiple copies, in other words would we own the copyrite.

Sounds like a good idea though.

It does sound good and I would be interested in learning more about it! Would it be a mish mash of individuals plugging their own company or an information type of video teaching prospects the advantages of using a quality carpet cleaner....? You could have examples of how crap a job a vax does and debunk Rug Doctors claims that a customer can get the same result as a professional  ::)

£120 is peanuts and I hope I could jump on board!!!!

the way I see it going is the film company will set up the cameras in a Hotel conference room. The room will be similar to a living room in that it will be carpeted and have upholstery and curtains.

each person will have 30mins film time within the room to do as they wish.  eg;

you could spend 10mins talking about your company, 10 mins outlining how you clean carpets, 10 mins discussing all the different services you offer, 10 mins doing a demo of how you remove a coffee stain etc..etc   its really up to you

they say they can put the video in any format you want ( but some formats will cost a little extra)

I don't know the full details but I would think you will own your 30mins of material.

the days cost will be the same weather its 5 people or 10. i'm giving my self a budget of £150, if it goes over this I'm out,

what I need is 10 people to say they are definitely interested then I can go back to the company and start getting a more detailed programme.

To make it more of a saleable item why don't we/you give some outline details of what can be achieved, ie do you/the owner talk about your company and what you could say, also what you are going to do ie clen carpets or just look and feel at them.

There are so many options that a script or something would make things easier or at least help.

good Steve that's 2 of us all we need is another 8 :) you could have the last time slot of the day and just travel up in the morning, or stay at my house the night before.

remember 30 mins film time will not be 30mins after editing. but just stand up and talk for 2 mins ( time your self) its a massive amount of time.

if I do it I'll just stand there and introduce my self and welcome them to my website, then I'll give some company history and talk about my cleaning process. I'll have the T/M outside with the hose running into the room then I talk about truckmount cleaning and how there home with benefit.

But like I say the time is yours do whatever you want. sort out your own script and practice it before the day.

Mike - pretty much what I had in mind, would like to add it to my sites and maybe make multiple copies to leave with clients or potential clients as a sales aid.

The main attraction for me would be the quality, got to be better than some of the grainy, twitchy you tube efforts - and thats not having a pop at anyone on here  ::)

Me too. After editing I would only want a 1 minute video anyway. There you go Mike, your nearly half way there. Even Ashmore is going to raid his kids piggy banks (but to be fair, they are loaded with fifty pound notes ;)

The kids think they are £50 notes but they are really hankys, well you can tell them anything they can't see them when they are at the bottom of the night safe.

this is an Email I've sent to the company

Hi Tim, thank you for your prompt reply.

a basic outline of what we require;

each member will want  a finished film of them stood on a 'set' (hotel conference room) they will introduce themselves and give a brief outline of thier company, how they work and what services they offer. They will want this put into a format that they can load onto thier websites and put onto disc to send to potential clients. I don't think anyone will require more than 8-10mins of finished film.

I think 10 members will be involved, so the day will be split into 10 time segments.

so we will have 10 filmings and 10 films that need editing

we are not wanting to win Oscars or show at the Cannes Film festival, we just want a quality production that will help us portray a professional image to our clients

I need to give the members an approximate price, is what we require viable within a days filming? and how long would the editing take?

thanks Henry

His reply;

Hi again Henry,
We can do this a single cameraman which will eliminate the need for a camera assistant

Realistically we would need to allow at least an hour to prepare and film each ‘subject’ so I would suggest we need to allow 1.5 days filming.

I would estimate that we would need a minimum of two days editing to produce the 10 films.

Therefore the total cost for the filming and editing would be £1,050.00 (+ vat)

The only additional cost would be for the DVD copies that your members need, these cost from £1.00 each depending on quantities.

Hope this helps,

 Regards,

 Tim.

....................................................................................................................

the only additional cost would be the hire of the 'set'

just a thought, we might get away with just 8 people taking part and do the filming in a single day the price would be the same as if 10 people did it over a day and a half

I have found the perfect set :) :) it is in a victorian hotel, the room is set up as a living room, its large and  is exquisitely furnished  with beautiful antique furniture, a massive stone fire place and the floor is adorned with a very nice rug, it will look fantastic. I'm going back to take a photo but you will be impressed!

it is in My town of Beverley (Hu17)

room hire and unlimited tea & coffee throughout the day will cost £100

it will be on the first or second Monday of August subject to availablity of the film crew.

Ill talk to the film company tomorrow, if they can do Monday 3rd of August we will set that as the date.

we need to make it just a days filming so we can cut the cost and will only need the hotel room for 1 day.

I don't think the cost will go over my limit of £150.

I can provide accommodation the night before. if any one wants it.

the hotel & film crew are now booked for Monday 3rd of August.

http://www.eon-media.com/

the cost will be £150 (which compared to what I'm having to pay if i don't get anyone else is peanuts) please remember that if anyone drops Out I will be liable for there cost so no one can now drop out or they still will have to pay. is this OK?

My home is open for anyone who wishes to travel up on Sunday.

I would suggest you start taking acting lessons ;D ;D I'm doing my shoot in the style of a Rambo/wizard of Oz style period Drama :o :o

I've been looking through the companies website, they can do some really professional stuff.

I'm meeting with them next week but we should start thinking about what we want to do, I was just going to stand in front of the camera and talk but I think we could do something really special.

Let us know how you get on Mike - perhaps we can get our heads together and come up with something that would suit us all, after all we are all in different parts of the country.
