Is it me or are you all sick of the summer brigade beer swilling fat dole dossers coming out now the sun is shining?
Been building business up for good few years, pay all taxes insurance etc, Then as soon as the sun comes out the fat out of shape beer swilling dole dossers come out with no insurance and not registered, offering to do houses for next to nothing just so they can buy a pint,
It gets us a bad name, Am i the only one p**d of with them.
I would love them to fall off there rusty ladder and shove my wfp up there big fat ass ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

there great aint they. bit of painting bit of gardening and a bit of window cleaning. all at bargain prices. well they earn a weeks wage for sitting on their butts, so everything else is just bonus.
had a woman tell me today her window cleaners (2 of them) take an hour to do her house and charge 8 quid. i said then they must be on the dole, oh yeah she replies they are on incapacity benefit.
popped in the city. stopped for a coffee a a christian centre, not my cup of tea but good cheap coffee. watched their window cleaner at work. lovely big shop front windows 8 of them. he got through them quick, did an ok job, might help if he changed his water at least weekly. he loads his gear in the car as we left and my girlfriend notices the tax disk and the blue badge parking permit with his picture on it.

best bet would be to inform the dhss if you thought that they were working and claiming.i used to think well it does nt hurt me, and it does nt now,i ve more than enough work on, but thats not the point.if i was starting up again and it was happening near me i d shop every last one of the scumbags. cheers mick

Bet they haven't done their NVQ's either. I can't understand how they pick up such a fine skill so fast?

dont seem to have any round here but i dont know what your problem is unless you are losing work to them,also i think you find alloy ladders dont rust ;D ;D

If they are on incapacity benefit I think they are allowed to work as long as they do not earn more than £80 a week which seems mad but with this government nothing would surprise me

Funny isn't it, there are a lot about at the moment. I have never seen so many window cleaners, ever! :-\
But my customers seem not too impressed with them either, so that's good.

bit quick to judge guys. they could well be men wanting to build rounds much like yours starting at the bottom and working hard to feed and clothe a family.
who says they have no insurance?
there prices may be low because they need to bring money in and cant afford to be too fussy.
we were all there once fellas. I cant begin to count how many times i've seen threads like this. kinda winds me up

yeah we all started once but you have an hourly rate that at least matches minimum wage.

I started by going out offering cheap services with minimum kit.
Still going years later and getting better all the time.
Can't assume they're all dossers. ::)

not all new window cleaners are dossers, but we can all spot the ones that are. my point was to say that the public dont care if the price is right.
if someone is fit enough to window clean then why do they need benefit, i have experience with disablity so know what i am talking about.

i was out yesterday and i seen a lad with a disability (arm missing below the elbow) he was cleaning the bottom windows with someone doing the top ones all with new gear but good for him at least he,s out making a living and not sat on his backside claiming for every thing (sorry if i ve offended anyone )

Some public do ... they're the ones I want as custies.
Think about, say ... plastering. What do you do? I don't know you but here's what I do - if I'm patching a small hole I fill it myself with polyfilla. If I need to get a neat job round a bigger hole then I'll happily use a mate I know or my bro in law who works shifts in a factory but who can "do a bit" of building stuff. Some of you guys do it yourself.
If I need a ceiling plastered I'll use a skilled plasterer.
Now can I moan if Mrs. Lady only has her windows done every so often and is happy to wait for the summer brigade to turn up? Or that new wet behind the ears canvasser who thinks she'll be regular does a clean?
It's not as if she was likely to ever be a good reliable custy (by my standards) anyway.
My ol' grandad was a copper and he retired and did a bit of window cleaning to keep busy, stay away from his moaning missus and stay active in his retirement. He worked a couple of days a week.
They aren't all dossers but they are sometimes competition - so raise your game and you'll do ok.

is being insured to clean residential windows a legal requirement ? or just in scotland where you're supposed to be licensed ?

No it is not a legal requirement,but apparently you are a cowboy if you do not pay for it.

Just concentrate on what your doing and do it well and then you will have no problems with new starters.
Also its a good chance for them to cull your round of all your bad customers, in my experience the only customers who jump ship are the ones you wouldnt mind losing anyway.

Don't worry about it mate. Just put your business together and get on with it. This game is prone to attracting people looking for something as an easy way to start to be self employed.
I would expect most of the "chancers" to fade pretty quickly. I even get squaddies leaving the army and staying here in Germany that have a go at it. Haven't seen one last any longer than a year so far.! or 2 like to pretend that they are the only REAL business types and born window cleaners. Everyone has to start somewhere :)
Alot of the new guys fold in the winter when they start to get blue fingers and it's cold and windy. Good luck anyway. :)

aS dAVE SAID, THEY CAN ALSO HELP TO CULL YOUR WON ROUND OF DODGY CUSTYS, THESE (sorry, cant be arsed to alter the caps) beer money boys arent all bad. They have their uses.

for one i use my name not a alais nickname.
you seem to be targeting me.. i had a go at doleys, scammers and scroungers who get paid by the state because they cant work suposedly yet manage to do a full time job.
some in this thread has had a go at new people starting out, not me i never forgot that i knew feck all once and had to learn the hard way.
the scottish borders is a big area you have no link to a web site so whos hiding me or you.
so whats your problem with me then. just checked on the first page of this thread, 10other people show no location either, so i guess its something i said the made you single me out. would like to know what
