Cleaning the windows of a terrace house today when the neighbour walking past asked how much i charged. Gave her the price and she then told me she already has a window cleaner, "a little old man" she described him as, but he always did such a bad job that she to has clean the windows again after hes finished but she admits to being reluctant to get rid of him
Anyway gave her a card, but goes to show customer loyalty can be a funny thing. Anyone else had a experience like this?

Lots of times. Odds on he only charges a few quid and she would have a fit if you were to price it up at any more than she already pays for a crap job!

Yeh i ve got a customer like that but when she saw what a fantastic job i did she got shot of him!!!!

I do the neighbours either side of her, hopefully they will put a good word in for me if she asks them

Ive got a customer I do once a year roughly that already has a regular Window cleaner. He does an 'OK' job on the glass but the white pvc frames are a mess but he only charges £8. She has used him for years and reluctant to get rid of him cos 'he is a nice old man'. I charge her £22 but happy with his arrangement as it only takes me 20 mins tops!

I have alot of contact with my Brit custies, I must be a bit weird as I enjoy contact with them, like when collecting. The ones that are out during the day get to see a face (Good looking bronzed window person rippling muscles)in the evening.. I think this helps create a certain amount of loyalty. 8)
No really, the custies prefer to know WHO is providing the service, where possible.

Don't tell everyone I do your collecting for you, Cozy! ;D
In answer to the original question, I do an area where I park the van and do 3 houses one side of the street and another three on the other without moving it.
In the middle is an old lady who has had an old guy with his druggie thief of a son window clean for years and her windows look minging. Her neighbours tell her she should use me but she says she doesn't want to upset her window cleaner.
There's loyalty and there's crazy ... ::)

I had a lady phone up at the weekend enquiring about prices. She had one of my leaflets which she must have had for best part of two years because thats how long ago we leafletted that road.
She was very insistant I told her a price. Normally I won't do that over the phone but I know the road and I know the houses. So, after confirming she didn't have any extensions or a conservatory, I told her £15.
Her attitude changed immediately and she informed me in a very snooty way that her present window cleaner charges her £8 and he was a lovely man and she was very happy with him.
So why did she phone me? If I had said £6 would she have dumped him?
